As a firefighter who has responded to many people who have gotten in a vehicle accident and injured others because they thought they knew better; as a military person who has been preached too about the dangers of BAC's (beyond my desire to hear it any more) and as someone who is living in England and home of the walk to the pub culture; if you think you are ever capable of driving after drinking then you need to stop drinking or move closer to the pub so that you can walk there and back. Our system in the states sucks that everything is designed towards the need of a car to get around but it doesn't mean we need to drive after drinking. If you feel the need to drink and drive then you need to either brew more beer at home, move closer to friends who you drink with or live next to a pub like I do.
The idea of drinking and driving is one that may have worked years ago but it does not now. If you have not had to cut someone out of a car because they were too stupid to not drink and drive or those that were injured because of your actions, then you are obviously part of the problem.

Up the rye.
I used Maris Otter, a few other malts, flaked rye, Fermentis-04 English ale yeast along with some columbus, simcoe and willamette. It came out at 4.7% and it was my favorite beer I have done.

My rye pale ale that is almost gone. It was also my first beer that was kegged or dry-hoped and the first beer of mine that I kept for myself and didn't share with very many people.

I used rye bread last week. 1.25 pounds in the mash and another 1.25 pounds as a sort of decoction with 8 cups of wort, reduced down to two cups.

I use flaked rye quite often and have never have a problem.
I also did a rye bread ipa today. Along with flaked rye, I used 1.25 pounds of rye bread as an experiment in the mash. To further that experiment, I took off 8 cups of first runnings and decocted (down to 2 cups) it along with another 1.25 pounds of rye bread. It was a stick mess but appears to have worked out.
I did this based on the flavor of the local bakeries rye bread and wanting to see how it worked in a beer.
If it doesn't work out, lesson learned but if it does work out, I might have made a winner.

You can skip several steps. You have way to many things are touching your beer in my opinion. I transfer from primary to keg where it gets dry hopped. It is a bit hazy but that is not something I am worried about because I am mainly worried about good beer.

Ingredients / Rye Bread IPA

So I am going to be using rye bread in my next brew. I am doing so for a couple of reasons; 1. to recreate how pub/brewers in old world England did so (used bread in the mashing process on occasion) and; 2. I love the taste of the rye bread from my local baker. I plan to not use any rye malt.
Here is the question. Has anyone else done a beer with bread in the mash? Also, did you get your desired results and is there anything I need to watch out for with bread and the extra ingredients it brings to the table?
I will be using Maris Otter, big hops such as Summit/Simcoe and some Safale-05.
Thoughts?

I am looking to recreate an old English style by using bread in my mash (Rye bread). I am looking for a rye flavor by doing something from days gone by. Has anyone else used bread in their mash? I am looking more for flavor more than anything. If you have used any type of bread, have you had issues with it? I also intend to use a lot of hops.

If anyone is ever in England around this time of year, it is oyster stout season and Adnams does a great oyster stout. Not too many breweries do a real oyster stout but Adnams pulls it off. BTW, I hate oysters in any other fashion.
