The Pub / Re: Sam Adams Cans
« on: May 03, 2013, 03:38:02 pm »
I used to frown on cans, mostly because of the Budweiser connection. I have since found that damn good breweries have been canning for years (Oscar Blues, Santan, ect.). I try to have an open mind these days and have been pleasantly surprised by the amazing beers now available in cans, I'm having a Santan Devil's ale now as a matter of fact.

Just keep stirring!  I like to use raisins later in the process.  After the beer is fermented, toss some raisins in a red hot wok and caramelize them.  Deglaze with some of the beer, then toss it all in a secondary and rack the beer on top.
Damn Denny, you have me sold. Think this might be my next brew.

I like your style! I too have a following of beer tasters but for the most part the bug gets them and they are soon on their own brewing and experimenting. I especially enjoy how creative some of my converts have become.

The Pub / My "missionary" work!
« on: March 14, 2013, 02:59:46 pm »
Since brewing my first home brew (a little over 14 months ago) I have converted many of my friends and family into home brewers. I even have my mom and stepfather doing it now. I am always happy to hear of someone enjoying my beer or mead and being encouraged to try it on their own. I am also the "go to guy" for questions and concerns about the brewing process. I also have the awesome job of trying the brews of everyone whom I have converted. It's a rough life. Does anyone have similar stories they wish to share?

Kid definitely looks creepy, I think you could probably attribute it to him being off his med's too long. I feel sorry for kids like this that are obviously troubled and misguided and can't find the help they need. At that age I was trying to get laid and drink as much fizzy yellow water as I could. Apparently that kept me on the right track! Who knew?!?

The Pub / Re: Pint Glass Pricing Poll

Sounds like a cool glass, still I would definitely buy it at $5 as is. I think the average person would part with $5 bucks easy for a cool logo emblazoned tulip glass.

Commercial Beer Reviews / Re: Unibroue la Terrible

Unibroue makes some awesome beers. Their tripel (La Fin Du Monde) is one of the best commercially made tripels out there IMO.
:)

I vacationed in Vancouver B.C. recently and was blown away by the quality and quantity of the local beers and breweries. Phillips and Driftwood were among my favorites. Great beers.

The best beer I ever made was a honey pilsner. It was a total PITA since it was my first time lagering. (Not an easy feat in AZ) But, it turned out great! I will try again this January. I am celebrating my first year of home brewing this Christmas, so hopefully many more great beers in my future.

Good luck with this next go around! What type of yeast did you use this go around?

I've tried a couple 'medical' soda products here in CA and they were not so much. and man, you think hops are expensive? even with the new laws I suspect prices will stay more or less the same so 1.50/oz v. 300/oz?

I've been talking about this for a long time with my brother in-law and the only thing holding it up is money. I would like to hear if it is even worthwhile before I invest in my own experiments.

I'm participating for the first time this year. Having a blast with it so far. Much better than sitting around being pissed off.

I thought it was a great session brew. Good for Arizona "Fall" nights.

Returned from our trip last week with a belly and a suitcase of good brew. Thank you for the Boundary bay recommendation. Their IPA, ESB and Scotch ale were all very good. Food was great(though I would not recommend looking in the kitchen.) and their outside patio was just what I needed to relax into the vacation. We also visited the Forecasters pub and Black raven brewery. Black raven was amazing, great taproom with impressive brews. We didn't get a chance to hit any breweries in B.C. though we did enjoy quite a few great beers, most notably beers by Phillips, Russell and Driftwood breweries. Thanks again everyone for the suggestions.

Hey all, I'm headed up to north Seattle, WA. area (Lynnwood) and then heading to Vancouver, BC. Any good recommendations on breweries and brew pubs? We plan on hitting Grandville Island in Vancouver and possibly Chuckanut in WA.
