Terrible and dispicable tragedy. A great loss for our country. I really try to understand how these things happen but I am at  loss. I pray for the families of the victims and shudder at the mental scars of the children and adults that had to witness such but mostly the children.

I disagree with your idea that small breweries couldn't supply all beer drinkers. We just need more small breweries to do it. This increases employement. it also drives prices up on high quality agricultural products which benefits farmers

 Before refridigerated transportation all beer drinkers were supplied by small breweries. Every city/town/village/hamlet had one or several, depending on the population. There were thousands of them.

This is an interesting thread and I agree with most....

 Usually on my way home from work on Fridays I stop at the local grocer and get a 6'er of beer from one of the 2 local craft breweries, Thomas Creek or R J Rockers but I am standing in line to check out with a multitude of BMC. Bud Light is still the #1 seller I believe.

 For some reason folks crave "triple hopped" rice beer instead of a good IPA or tasty barley made drink. I think this is changing though and the big conglomerates want to jump in but don't want to let the cash cows to wander loose. Give the BMC crowd something too good and you will lose the high margin sale. They will like and want the better product but will not want to pay the premium so they are hitting the middle ground.

I made an external cold smoker so I now smoke bacon at what ever the ambiant temp is. Cost about $5.
 Going to smoke a boston butt Sunday (@225f) and I will try to remember to take pics.

We keep fogetting that besides coming in neat little packages, yeast exist in nature. There is probably more yeast washed down a storm drain naturally in a day during a rain storm than all of us could dump in a year.

....Sending the yeast down a curb drain may be a problem. Any newer city has separate storm and sanitary sewers. Street storm drains go to the nearest river, and a yeast slurry would be an un-natural organic load, reduce water quality, and cause areal stench if not flushed by a decent rainstorm.

A quart of yeast slurry in a river will cause "an un-natural organic load, reduce water quality"?

Really?

Kind of like spitting in the ocean.

Show up one day at his house with some equipment and ingreidents and tell him that since he likes homebrew so well you are going to show him how to make his own and that way he doesn't have to wait on you!  Make him a batch and help him bottle it. Leave him A NB catalog when you leave.

 I've done this with sausage, cheese and bread moochers. It actually works.
