All Grain Brewing / how long with crushed grain??

I was planning on brewing an all grain batch of NB Brickwarmer the first week of January, however, couldn't get to it.  It was pre crushed a few days before Christmas.  Would you still use the grains or  are they going to be too stale. I won't be able to brew until this weekend.  Thanks guys

All Grain Brewing / 2 gallons in my dead space

Did my first all grain today in a new mash tun.  What suprised me was that I had 2 gallons of dead space.  I thought this was a bit excessive.  Does anyone else have this issue, or should I chop down the feet a bit?  Thanks in advance for any advice/tips.  John
