Most Valuable : As I've gotten older, pumps to pump the wort so I have less to pick up.  10 Gallons of water is heavy.

Least: Lid to my brew pot.

I'll just throw this in, in a recent issue of Zymurgy they have a recipe for testing single hops and the author makes a point to say that Amarillo was not good for the 60 minute addition.

I read an article about this very practice a couple of months ago.  Big macros trying to make themselves look craft.

I think he borrowed the shirt from Charlie Sheen.

Started in '91 and was taught by one of my cousins, who had been brewing for a while, all grain.  So I started with all grain.  Speaking of pre-internet, who remembers "The Cat's Meow"?  I still have copy on one of my brew book shelves.

Oh, yeah!  Worst recipe database ever!  Did you do rec.cafts.brewing, too?

Yes I did.  I may have to go home tonight and see if I can dig up my copy of Cat's Meow and flip through it!

I've really given up trying with my family.  There are a couple of my cousins who will try my beers but most are not interested.

I know with my grandmother who is 89, she remembers her daddy making homemade beer, I guess a carry over from prohibition, and she thinks what I make is too strong and compares it to what he used to make.

I just let them drink the BMC and I keep the good stuff for myself.  ;)

Homebrew Clubs / Re: Problem with club growth in VA

We have 2 meetings a month.  One is where we bring our homebrew and conduct the actual business of the club and the second is what we call our social where we go, usually to a local brewery or pub and socialize more.

Beer Recipes / Gumball Head
« on: May 14, 2013, 09:27:14 AM »
Has anyone done a work up of the Gumball Head recipe given in the book "Brewing with Wheat"?  It says the hops are Amarillo, Warrior and Simcoe but all the clone recipes I am finding are only using Amarillo.

So here is what I brewed on Saturday
10 Gallon batch

14# 2 row
6# Munich
2# Victory
2# Crystal 40
1# Crystal 120
4 oz. Chocolate added at vorlauf

2 oz. Cascades FWH
2 oz. Magnum 60 min.
2 oz. Cascades 5 min.
2 oz. Centennial 5 min.
2 oz. Cascades 0 min.
2 oz. Centennial 0 min.

Both flame out additions were allowed to sit in the wort until temp came down to about 160.

Measured OG. 1.070
Looking forward to trying and then tweaking.

The Pub / Re: Do you hate to be corrected?
« on: May 13, 2013, 07:30:29 AM »
I have come to the point where I only correct when it is something like the stupid cut onion deal or some other "medical miracle" that the pioneers used.  Something that might prevent someone from actually seeking medical attention, of course now that I think of it, maybe I should just let Darwinian evolution take its course. ;)

I too am unable to get a password.

Check your junk folder.  It appears that the word "experimental" often makes email from the site end up in junk.  If you still don't have it, contact Drew or me.

I checked the spam folder, all I found were links to celebrity diets, maybe the web is trying to tell me something. ???
I'll send an email to either you or Drew.  Thank you.

Equipment and Software / Re: PBW

I found out the hard way that my tap water was >140 when it melted one of my Better Bottles.  That being said, I love PBW with warm water and let soak for about 30 minutes.
