The Pub / Lone Star Bock
« on: January 11, 2013, 05:13:37 PM »
Dear Lone Star Bock,

I have long been a fan of your sibling, Lone Star. We have shared many an amazing night/day/night together. Floating rivers, paddling canoe's, talking with the ladies, and more. Lone Star doesn't make me ask questions or look for answers, it is simply the beer of the moment. You, however, are a massive disappointment and a blight on the good name you bare on your label. You make me ask questions, soul searching, mind crippling questions about: Why? Why in Gods name were you able to make it past the countless people who have created such magic as your older brother. Why would they let you slip past all the taste tests and marketing groups, all the way to the assembly line, to my unassuming refrigerator. Your aggressive looking rams head staring me in the face as I twisted off your cap, and the immortal words 'LONE STAR' blazing above it. I had hope, real hope, not the kind Obama promised, but like: Holy s***! I just fell into an alligator pit and am about to get my ass tore up! And then I see a hand reaching down from a place unseen, a strong, safe, secure hand, that I can rely on to pull me out of the daily drudge that we all deal with.... and those Goddamned Alligators! But, alas, you were there... Hiding your horrible deception beneath your promising visage. Like all your ancestors, I saluted all those who had fallen before you. With bold carelessness I turned you up on end, expecting the same standard of glory I had been so accustomed.... I found none. Instead, what I had found was a carefully hidden lie lurking beneath you outer shell. You must have been brewed with all of the half smoked cigars in Texas! This liquid ash tray being dumped into my mouth and running down my throat was an unexpected surprise indeed. But it was a far cry from the aftertaste of this crucible. I have had bad beer before, several times in fact, i'm no Nancy! Some times a situation calls for one to swill a warm beer thats been in a truck for months, or to polish off the rest of lonely soldier from the night before... But nothing, had prepared me for the onslaught my well traveled pallet was about to confront. I have never had a cigar be put out on my tongue before, and I have never had anyone piss in my face. But now I know that I will never have to wonder what the feeling of both, happening at the same time, would be like after trying You, Lone Star Bock. Thank you for giving me an experience that I will never forget.

Yours Truly

I love that real ale firemans 4 too.

The Texans put a hurting on Miami today, loved that.

I am really looking forward to tonights Denver - Pittsburg game with Peyton Manning back in the game.

For one, I am a Manning fan, then I lived in Colorado for several years and have continued to be a Denver fan, and 3rd Pittsburg has been one of my favorite teams to watch since big Ben has been there.  I cannot remember looking forward to seeing a game this much.

Also my favorite time of year, weather gets nice, football season, deer season, vacation days ahead, holidays .. halloween coming up, then turkey day and the rest.  Kids are back in school giving me a break during the day (I work from home).  So yeah, I love this time of year.

Good luck but it looks pretty dicey to me.

Can you rent it instead?  If it last sold for 3k, and now it is selling for 47k, what is your upside here?  How much more do you think it can increase?

In case anyone missed it, this is the end cap house.  Looks like it is a touch burned up, very likely meth and or crack production.  Might want to consider the toxic properties of a meth lab explosion and whats left behind.  Then again, might want to re-consider the neighborhood that produces crack houses and meth fires and the need to consider "defensiveness" of the property.

by the way, the second floor siding and valley flashing of every dwelling in this picture are in bad shape.  Very very likely to have systemic wood rot behind that.

thanks, I was inspired by the feedstore idea and drew up some ideas.  Still rough, but I like the direction.

herp derp indeed.

I smell everything before I drink or eat.  It drives my wife crazy.  Apparently in central american culture it is considered rude.  I'm not too bothered by it, if something smells stinks, I wont eat it.

I guess that’s the rude part, because I find dishes made with stinky cheese inedible.  One whiff and I pass.

Who would drink a can of soda that stuck and was obviously infected?

The Pub / Help design portable keg setup for a weekend
« on: August 15, 2012, 04:23:38 PM »
I am looking for some help on brainstorming this.  A good friend is getting married next april and has asked me not only to stand in his wedding, not only to provide beer and mead, but also to handle his keg setup system for the event and weekend.

He is getting married at a really nice 20 acre bed and breakfast in austin where after the wedding itself, the parents, the happy couple and wedding party of roughly 20 folks will continue to stay for the next three days to enjoy to scenic place, the pool, and other amenities.

His dilemma, he intends to have multiple kegs for the wedding and weekend.  At the end of the day/weekend, he wants to end up with a semi portable keg setup he can use in the future.

Wedding day - he will have two domestic beer kegs for the official reception.  Most likely sanke style north american keg couplers.  It would be nice to have two actual taps serving two distinct beers, but a single tap and switching kegs in the background is not a deal breaker.

Wedding night and after.  For the rest of the weekend he intends to flow through at least two more kegs.  I know he/his wife has voted for Hoegarrten as one of them, (I dont think this is sanke).

co2 is definiatly the way to go here, and I will be using my 20 pound tank from my kegerator at home for this.

He is thinking of having the kegs in trashcans and keep icing them over the weekend.

--
Based on the above, what other ideas do you folks think would be good things to consider, specific parts or advice?   Any ideas on how to make a trashcan keg a little dressier?  Or go cheaper on a one use kegerator?  Looking for ideas...  sky is the limit during idea phase so any thoughts?

The Pub / headsup- meteor shower weekend - Perseids peak Saturday night
« on: August 10, 2012, 06:20:14 PM »
I am about to head out of town for the weekend, thought I would drop a note in case anyone else was interested but did not know about the Perseids meteor shower this weekend.

Saturday August 11th is Perseids meteor shower peak weekend for 2012.  It should peak between midnight and 4am.  It also looks like a thumbnail waning crescent moon, that doesn’t rise until 1am or so, which is also excellent news as that sliver of moon will not light up the sky and distract from the meteor shower.

If you have them, use red lights (does not effect night vision) (red saran wrap works), and have a nighttime picnic and watch the north east sky for the meteor shower.  Go somewhere dark away from city lights and take your families if they have never seen one. Look to the northeast, depending on conditions you may see between 10 and 20 per hour or as much as 70 to 100 per hour.

You can get more specific location information here for your state or even just generic info as well.

Even if you miss the meteors, have a great weekend and drink a cold one for me!

how about parking your car at the farthest part of the driveway, where your back bumper would be even with the street.  Seems that would be an effective deterrent.

Euge, I did not know this happened.  I am sorry for your loss.

I did not know the man, but I imagine he was a man of honor and mistakes like my own father was.  Euge, I am saddened by the loss you had, and raise a toast high to the memories of what once was.

There are always good times to remember.

gmac, I liked that Black mountain group, very zepplin in feel, with a touch of hipster and perhaps a touch of skynard.

Here is a band I am listening to right now..
