I just opened my first one of these and it was good.
A little more sweet than intended, I think I need to back off the honey malt a bit more and do a bit of dry hopping.

It's real smooth though and has a great mouth feel.

I don't have my sheet in front of me, but this is roughly the recipe I went with:

8.5 lbs  american 2 row
.6 lbs american crystal 15
.15 lbs honey malt
.15 lbs munich malt

.75 amarillo 60 minutes
.75 cascade 15 minutes

WLP001

ABV 5.18%

This eventually did get stuck at 1.038

I got a yeast starter going with new juice, but I think the original may have oxidized.

Looking to make an American Golden Ale/Blond Ale this weekend.

Anyone have any favorite recipes?  Something moderately bitter with a helping of malt.

Two weeks later the gravity reading was 1.048.  So it's moving ridiculously slow or I had a measurement error when I read it at 1.050.

Stole a small sample.  It tastes good, sweet and bubbly with a very mild kick.

I'll let it keep going and do some more readings.

Just bottled last night with a packet of US-05, so we'll see how it does in a few weeks.

I used a number of pint bottles to discourage myself from drinking it early. Figure I'm more likely to hold the pints to share with friends over time.

Just did a gravity reading, we're at 1.050.  Started at around 1.070

I think I'm just going to let it do it's thing and take another reading in a week.

My friend and I pressed some apples to make a hard cider back in August.  When we racked that cider we didn't want to waste the yeast, so I went out and bought some juice.  Unfortunately all I could find had potassium sorbate, but I figured I'd give it a shot for a few bucks and see if the yeast could overcome.

It seemed to start fermentation for a few days, but then went dead for 2 weeks.  Last week it started back up and it seems like I've got a very slow fermentation going now (about 4 bubbles through the airlock per minute).

Now that apple season is fully underway I'd like to get some more juice without sorbate or press some apples and pour it over the old yeast.  Can I rack off this current sorbate cider and pour some new juice on top of the old yeast now, or will I be disrupting my fermentation too much?

Are you adding yeast to the bottle bucket or to the bottles?

I'm reading up on it now.  Some people seem to suggest throwing a few yeast grains in each bottle

Ah, that makes perfect sense.

I'm guessing I nearly hit the target gravity since fermentation stopped pretty close to the FG - 1.026 instead of 1.024
and I can guess that it's 12% ABV since that's the tolerance level for the yeast.

Though, I didn't think about carbonation.
I do priming sugar and carbonate in bottle, but won't that fail since I've killed off all my yeast?

Just brewed it yesterday.  Seems to have gone well so far, though I can't get a good reading on the OG.  Didn't realize before that my hydrometer caps out at 1.090

I decided to try my hand at one of the award winning recipes.  I went ahead and bought my grains, hops and yeast, but I seem to have misplaced my magazine.

Can anyone copy the instructions from it?  Otherwise I'll be hopping blind.

I don't remember the exact name, it was a scottish irish ale that won gold.  5 gallon.  A pretty heavy beer, about 17 lbs of grain.

Any help would be appreciated!
