All Grain Brewing / All Grain Efficancy

If im getting full conversion of my grains according to iodine test then how come my software is off when i say 85% efficany.  its always higher then what i end up with.  im resurculating through out the whole mash at 152F with a digital controler and heating element setup.  then raise up to mash out to 168F. run off everything. sparge. resirc for another 10 min or so and run off again.  i could ttry another sparge method but i was curious why i wasnt getting the efficancy. thanks everyone.

Yeast and Fermentation / Temp Controlled Chest

I built an insulated chest that can store 4 carboys and also has temp control, to a certain extent. i.e i use a johnson controls a419 controller and a smace heater.  Anyways the temp of the thermometer in the box is 60 62.  So if i want a fermentation at 62 degrees max temp should i pitch at 58 degrees so as it rises the 3 degrees or whatever it hits that temp then the box will keep it there.  How do i properly control the fermentation temp so im not peaking high 60s to 70 degrees?

im About to put an order into Auber Instruments for this PID http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=3 and this SSR http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=30 to go with it to build a heat stick for my newly constructed  RIMS.  but i really have no idea how to wire it up or do anything really with it yet but if theres anything else i need to order in order it get my heatstick going it would be nice to only have to pay for shipping once.  sorry if this is confusing to everyone.  thanks for any input.presion fitting

what about this PID instead of my johnson controls one.  even though i already own the A419 i can just use thatone in my fermentaion chamber.  but this is one that i dream of and it only 45 bucks.  but is it better?

im thinking of purchasing this 3/4 in stainless immertion header for my heatsick construction for my RIMS.  what do you think. i was gunna put the heat sensor on the output back into the keg.  its a johnson controls one from northern brewer but it has a 2 degree fudge factor. wont kick on untill it drops 2 degrees.  is there a beeter one out there that shows current temp and set temp on the same screen.

General Homebrew Discussion / corn sugar v. force carb

im ready to keg a batch of irish red and ive got no room in my kegerator to chill it like i normally do to force carb.  should i just go with corn sugar at room temp or still force carb at room temp even though it takes more psi.  how much corn sugar if i do it that way?

im going to update my setup to all copper and stainless plumbing but i was curious if some brass/bronze fittings would be ok?  yes boiling wort would be traveling through it and so would cool wort.

how di i use thius stuff.  apricot flavor.  ready to rack into the secondary.  requires all of the 4 oz bottle.  should i just open up and dump or sanitize the whole bottle  then open and dump.  whats up?

I made up and small batch of starsan jkust to sanatize my secondary and my auto siphon.  i know that it is inexpensive stuff but on my budget its like gold.  so could i save it and reuse it?  how long does it last?  whats a good sign thats its time to make a new batch?

i am setting up a brewing stand.  im using thermoplastic tubing for all my hot and cold wort lines with stainless hose barbs and quick disconnects.  i have to thread some stainless fitting onto my march pump and onto my blichmann therminater.  will teflon tape be good and withstand the heat of boiling wort and then be able to be cleaned and sanitized without having to redo the fittings.

just got a bunch of stuff to make a nice brew station.  including 3 piece ball valve to convert my keg to a stationary boiling pot, march pump and blichmann therminater.  but can i plump everything up with pvc and glue it all up.  im no budgeted for stainless.  allso i i need a stem to go to the bottom of my keg to my new valve which i would like to mount as high up on the bottom of the keg as possible.
