Cool! I have thought about doing this, but wasn't sure how clean the bags were. I may just take some sterile bags we have here at work that we no longer use!

For the past few batches I have been making starters and re-using yeast. In the past I have mainly used US-05. I made a stir plate and have plenty of DME to last a while for starters. I have noticed break material in the starter wort I make on the stove. Should I worry about this in the starter? Is there any benefit to starting with "clean" wort that does not contain the break?

Is it necessary to "wash" the yeast when saving from a previous batch and storing it in the fridge--so its trub free?

I really like the sense of community we all get from forums like this. I recognize a lot of people here from the NB board, but there are a bunch of people I don't know and it would be cool for everyone to introduce and share a little about  yourself. Don't feel obligated though! 

I'm Travis. 25 y/o. I've been brewing for about 2 years now. I moved to all grain this past spring (12 AG to date) and don't know why I didn't do it sooner! Love to brew, and like most other people here, its just about all I think about. I live in Kansas City and work for a pharmaceutical company as a microbiologist while my wife is in medical school at Kansas University. I like long leisurely strolls on the beach, and my favorite color is blue (especially for mash tuns!)

Well it looks like I am in the minority here.... I better get my membership soon! I like the suggestions from everyone:

-Icon to show who the AHA members are--I think this will encourage others from the board to join once they see how many people are already members of AHA.

-Seeing the big wigs at conferences, rallies, etc

Yes, carryover from NB. It was generally understood that each poll should include a "no pants" option. It all stemmed from Weazletoe....

I remember the discussion about DMS from the other thread about this. Isn't it much of a concern--letting the wort sit for 80 minutes hot? Have any of you that have tried this noticed any negative results other than blatz's cloudy beer?

The DMS from malts is only a worry in pale-colored malts like pilsner malt.

I realize this, and thus the need for 90 minute boils with high percentages of less modified malts like pilsner, but then why is there such stress on cooling your wort rapidly with other grain bills? I know for a fact that I don't use pilsner malt in many of my brews. What are the other benefits of cooling quickly other than a shorter brew day? I'm playing devil's advocate....

I haven't done concurrent brews, but like others I've done overlapping. I don't usually do it though. My brother and I did three 5 gallon batches on a Saturday. It was a long but successful day.
