The Pub / Re: Why is Dead Guy Ale so expensive?
« on: February 23, 2010, 09:53:34 AM »
Well they say everything is bigger in Texas, including the price tag I guess.

Haven't bought it in a while but I'm sure it's not that much here in New England...otherwise I would have passed on it.  I did when I saw Green Flash West Coast IPA was $16 a 6 pack in Massachusetts.  I just went home and made my own 5 gallon batch.

What are you going to do with all the money you would have spent on equipment, ingredients, etc...buy a couple extra houses :)

Good luck in your future endeavours.

Something some of you guys just seem to forget - this is a forum sponsored by the AHA.
And the AHA is sponsored by it's membership.  But rules are rules, and if we can't live by them, we'll go elsewhere.  However, no matter what topic is posted, someone I'm sure is going to be offended. ( even beer related subjects like "I think Lambics are awful!! :) )

I guess we'll wait and see how this all pans out...now please don't block me out...I can go to my other forum for the porn and great beer information too ( although they don't like politics over there much either ).

I bet Sam and Jim are passing around photos saying, "Look who I had a beer with last night"

I really got to make it to this some year.

I typically use WLP001.  You could use Pacman yeast and make a Rogue clone.

What's the model #'s of the 2 stage controls?  I seem to be having trouble finding them online.

Morebeer.com has them already wired if you're not comfortable doing that kind of stuff.

The Pub / Re: Super Bowl Sunday
« on: February 10, 2010, 06:28:47 AM »
I'm late to the party - just like the team I root for (see avatar).  Yep, now they're the only team/city to have no association with a Superbowl. :(  Every other team or city in the league has either played in, or hosted a Superbowl.  My son (23) asked me how long I thought it will be before they win a Superbowl.  I asked him how long he's planning to live, then told him to add five years....
It was like that my whole life as a Patriots and Red Sox fan.  Altoughth Sox have won the World Series before ( 1918 being the last ),  prior to 2004, there were people waiting the whole lives to see a championship.  My father, who was a huge Red Sox fan never got to see them win.  Hang in there...it could happen!!!

I bought my 2 chest freezers at Lowes.  A 5 cu ft for fermentation ( $168 I think ) and 7.2 cu ft for $229 ( kegerator ).  I also went to the post office and got one of the moving packets, because there was a 10% off Lowes coupon in there.

I believe fermenation control was the most important upgrade to my process.  Being able to dial in the exact temp I want, being able to raise for D-rest and crash for dropping the yeast all with a touch of a button is great.  My fermentation chamber is the 5 cu ft chest freezer ( I typically only have one going at a time ), Ranco Dual-stage Temp Controller I got prewired from Morebeer.com and the Fermwarp taped to the inside of the freezer with electrical tape.  Works like a charm.

I swear, if they would have had a snowblower there I would have just slapped down the Amex and bought it even though I have no place to put it and probably wouldn't use it again for another five years.

I'm surprised the guys selling snowblowers out of a truck haven't popped up yet.  In Dec 08 when we had the ice storms in New England, we were without power for 6 days and some for up to 2 weeks.  Trucks popped up everywhere selling generators at about 100-150% markup.

I work for a school district, so every time it snows I'm up early sitting in front of the TV waiting for it to scroll to my district.  Makes me feel 10 years old again!

My son's school district calls with an automated message saying when school is cancelled.  Problem is we get it around 6am...scares the living hell out of me.  I say make them go!!!
