I run at 14psi, with 9' of 3/16" ID beer line, holding everything at 38 +/- 2F, with an 8" rise from the top of the kegs to the taps (perlicks). Assuming clean lines and faucets, its a perfect pour every time. Apologies to the purists, but I don't mess with different volumes for different styles. Its a lot easier that way, and I like it just fine as is.

What about a fish scale? A full cornie is 5 gallons so thats 40lbs plus tare, so its perceivable you could simply hook up the fish scale and lift. No disconnecting...

Generally I trust to luck to finding something local and crafty when I'm travelling. The number of times I've had to clean my teeth with the bath faucet because the sink is full of ice and beer is quite disturbing. Almost as disturbing as the image of a sink of beer is to housekeeping I expect.

« on: January 04, 2011, 04:32:16 pm »I can't find a picture of one right now, but if you borrow a couple of 5 gallon kegs and prime the beer with sugar, you can get a little CO2 adapter that fits onto the gas in fitting. One small charge should push all the beer in a keg. Minimal expense and you would only need a cobra tap and the kegs.

Those are great to push kegs once they are carbed. I HIGHLY recommend adding this in the middle though, to control your serving pressure. The first time I used the little charger I was foaming and having a hard time keeping a good pressure, but put this in the middle and then you can simply add little pulses of CO2 as needed to keep your kegs at a steady pressure and enjoy nice pours

If we wanted to limit drunks on the roads we could take a page from some of the EU countries, but that'll never happen.
In the UK, its the same 0.08 BAC limit. Its the same in that officers cannot pull you over simply to check your licence. They require probable cause or suspicion of intoxication. But, get convicted, and its automatic loss of licence for 12 months, jail time and fines. After that you have to re-sit your driving test (extended, harder test) and good luck finding an insurance company that will take you on. Its also much less socially accepted, and people will not hesitate to take the keys from someone who's been drinking.
Over here it's "who's the most sober" at the end of the night. Its no public transport to get home. It's get convicted, then appeal for a restricted license since you need the car for work etc... I think a large part is not just the police side of things, its the judicial punishment and social acceptance that we need to address.

I think its awesome SodaStream is coming back. I remember that 20 years ago back in the UK, making crappy cola and orangeade, and pouring in double the syrup when my mum wasn't looking.
Seriously though, I second the carb cap for a regular soda bottle. It hooks up to a ball lock disconnect no problem.

Wanted to resurrect this to show off the updates. I added another tap (its a 6 banger now) and reworked the lines to tidy them up. There's 7 full kegs in there in preparation for the big Christmas party next weekend.
I know the last image has nothing to do with the kegerator, but a dart board is a must in any self respecting beer garage...

I've read before that a bottling wand fits snugly into a cobra tap, and I think I've seen it mentioned where you can vent the keg until there's just enough pressure to push the beer out into cold bottles without much loss of carbonation. I've got a BW on tap, and its taking far too long to finish, using up valuable faucet space...

I'll share my cider recipe. It makes a strong dry cider thats a real crowd pleaser (except to me, I drank too much cider growing up in Scotland, I'm off it). It's a house brew thats always on tap. 24 hrs on camden tablets then a packet of E118 champagne yeast does the rest. 1 month on primary, rack off sediment and raisins, 1 month secondary/bright tank, keg, carb, enjoy...
5 gal unpreserved cider (sediment and all)
4 cans of frozen apple juice concentrate
2.5 lbs honey
1 lb raisins (it helps to combine 1/2 gal cider, concentrate, honey & raisins in a pot and heat to ~120F to dissolve honey and swell fruit)
5 camden tablets, crushed
1 E118 yeast pack.
1.080 OG; 0.995 FG; 11% abv
