Hi,

For the 1st Round, the bottle labels are your entry form.  Please disregard the instructions about including proof of payment, unless you used a Free Entry Certificate; those MUST be included in the box with the entries.

I had given some thought to doing some creative editing on the actual label to get in an updated description for a cat 23 beer after the closing date for editing. Figured it would be cheating so didn't do it, but if the labels are your entry form I'm sure there's someone out there who's going that route.

On the other hand, there is a bar code on the label. Will they be scanning to get information or manually copying it from what's written on the label?

I also wanted to tweak a description. Could have sworn that last year I could edit my entries right up to the day they were due. Just went to make a change and no longer see the edit feature. Nowhere did I read a final date for editing entries. Did I miss it somewhere? What's up?

On "My Entry and Entries" it has me listed as shipping entries. Is this something that's locked in? Do I have the option to drop off my entries?

Juggling kegs to get the proper carbonation levels is turning into a challenge and taking longer than I had planned. Hoping that dropping off will be an option (and a good excuse to go into the city.)

How did the sparge go? that's gotta be a sticky one!

I was really worried about this. I did a decoction mash-out and had trouble getting the thin wort to come through a strainer. Suprisingly the lauter went fine.

Must have helped that the first thing that went into the tun was a pound of rice hulls.

I used white wheat. It's got a pretty high diastatic power. Had no problem with conversion. Mashed low and still got 80% efficiency. Actually was only planning on 75%, so it'll be a little bigger than planned. Fermenting at a low temperature to keep it clean. At first I was thinking it'd be something like a Cream Ale, but most of the recipes I see use pilsner and less corn. It might end up closer to a real basic American Wheat if the wheat is the only flavor contributer.

Long unimportant story as to why, but on Sunday I mashed with a 50/50 mix of malted wheat/flaked maize. Hopped to 17 IBU with Willamette and added some simple sugar at the end of the boil. It’s now fermenting nicely with a clean ale yeast. The brewday was done for testing some new equipment, but what do you think this beer will be like? I can't find any information on a grain bill like this.

If you had a First, Second, or Third your beer, mead or cider goes to the second round.  Mini-BoS, drink up.

Yeah, but there's been some question about if they put the place (1st, 2nd or 3rd) on the cover sheet or left it blank so that you wouldn't know until Janis releases everyones information at the same time. I think that places were announced at the judging center, just not sure if they made it to all the score sheets.

Does anyone know if the "Place Awarded" was put on all the Philly cover sheets that will advance to the second round? Had a couple checked as advancing to the mini-BOS, but wonder if I should be drinking these looser beers or saving them for the second round.

I know results aren't posted until everyone is done.

Is this correct? I thought that last year some results were released from the judging sites as they became available. That it was only the official AHA website that didn't post until all were in.

Ha.  I guess I misread that as changing the style category he was entering the beer in, not changing the actual beer.

And the big question for next year:
Can you just grab a bunch of spots in categories not requiring a lot of detail and then sort out what you're actually going to enter later?

Were you planning to change beers AFTER you ship?

Got lucky this year. There's a drop-off less than a hour from my house. Guess I have until next Wednesday to make the decision?

Re-brewed an American Brown based on the score sheet from a local competition. Scored 36 there, but have high hopes for the new version. Still have to keg and bottle.
