General Homebrew Discussion / Re: budweiser yes, but kind of cool

Hmm... let's do the math here... assuming they'll charge the same price for these packages compared with 12-ounce packaging, they will bring in revenues of 12/11.3 what they did before... this is a 6.2% return.  Surely the average Bud drinker knows and cares that this is the real reason for the "bow tie" design.  Ha.  Worthless gimmick.  Anything to make more money.
neglecting of coarse the cost of engineering, design, fabrication.  it will probably have a limited run, for people who like to collect cans

my question are the pistachios in the upper part of the picture.  has anybody, dare i ask, brewed with them?

Kegging and Bottling / Re: beer line formula???

as above.  the regulator may be set at 8 psi but this acts kind of like a check valve. if you carbed the keg to 30 stablized and then reduce the regulator to 8, unless there is a temperature or volume change the keg is still at 30 psi. until you start drawing off.

Oh sure, the nuc chimes in. ;D
ex - nuc to you. oh and takes one to know one 8)
oh and i think you probably have a more fun ex - nuc job than i do.

there might be a reasonable correlation, but all things considered the amount of pressure a cylinder will hold is a variable of radius and wall thickness, for a given material.  but just based on weight per volume is not adequate due to being able to match this ratio for different configurations of height, radius, for a given volume and wall thickness  thrown in for the weight as well.

yes i am up for a traveling kettle.
good luck on your phd.  I am miserable just having to study for this 10 yr recert.
a utility pump would work, i actually set one up such that i pull the grain bag from my igloo and put the pump in the igloo with water and ice packs and use this to recirculate.  it really has not been worth the effort because i can put the whole kettle in my fridge over night and transfer the next day.

there are other forums?

i have been pondering this.  any particular reason to boil for so long if you don't do 60 minute additions? also i think a similar way of boiling would be just to get a canning kettle and put the beer jars into water that is boiling around them, you could probably control this a bit easier

actually, my kettle is not getting used for a while ( i have my 10 year boards coming up that i have been studying for.) i would be happy to let you try my electric kettle and see.

not much of a "setup" so to speak.  really just this kettle. i haven't even put the valve in it yet.  it is 4g kettle with 1500w element.  works fine with no electric controls. just enough power to bring to a good boil.  i do have an IMUSA seafood steamer kettle that i may make into an electric unit.  i just then pour the water into an igloo cooler.  then drain from that cooler back to the kettle.  for you it may be easier to have pumps but otherwise. nothing fancy.

kgs
as an also small batch and electric brewer. i don't think i would use an element in both kettles.  i heat my water up in the boil kettle and pour it into the mash tun.  i usually prep more water than i need and do in fact drain this to either another kettle or cooler if i need it.  i can always heat it back up. in the boil kettle if i need to but i really haven't had any problem

Kegging and Bottling / Re: Why do YOU keg?
« on: April 04, 2013, 07:04:28 AM »
i still bottle and find it relatively easy and fast.  though, i only brew 2gallon batches at a time.  the real reasons for me shifting to kegs in the future is the pouring how much out at a time.  also i am not a big fan of the sediment in a bottle and the beer lost there. i do think i am going to only bottle 16-20 ouncers in the future making it even easier. i am experimenting with plastic bottles as well

being a former engineer by trade.  i use ibrewmaster for my iphone and ipad.  i do idiot checks on the numbers.  it is not so much so that i can use it to create a recipe as it is that it stores it and the batch information right on my phone when i want to show it to somebody.
