Events / GABF ticket selection

Last year was my first GABF.

For this year as a member I have the option to go on the members only day.

What's the difference in sessions? Do you strongly recommend one over the other?

With only experience in the general admission day I have no idea what if any differences there are. Secondly if the members only day is preferred how fast does it normally sell out? We have a party of 4 and with only 2 tickets per member is it a crazy fast sell out like a concert like sold out in an hour with ticketmaster freezing and hanging up where getting 4 tickets could be a problem or does it sell out in a couple days?

If there isn't anything to gain on members only day can we buy general admission tickets during the pre sale? Might be the easiest option to just grab 4 tickets to gen admission but not if there is something cooler at members only session.

What are your thoughts on ticket selection?

Yeast and Fermentation / How much hop scrubbing does fermentation do?

I've got an IPA with some late addition hopping fermenting right now and it smells like a 22 megaton hop bomb has blown up in my apartment. 

I'm really digging it but I can't help but feel like that aroma is getting blown off at a pretty good clip.

How much better is dry hopping vs late hopping for aroma and taste in the finished beer? I like doing the late addition thing and like I said my place smells awesome but how do you feel in general about fermentation stripping out/blowing off hop aroma vs dry hopping?

Yeast and Fermentation / No fermentation temp control

Like most of you I go to a lot of tap rooms and breweries.

I look at every system I can see. I've been assuming all the conicals I've seen are jacketed/cooled systems. I know some are but yesterday I was at a nano brewery and I saw some conicals I could tell were not jacketed or cooled or temp controlled in any way. I saw the temp strips pegged over to the right outside the "ale" range. They were just free standing with no temp control at all.

Thing is... the beer was alright.    We tried several and I'll admit the fruiter styles were better than the others.

I've always worked at cool fermentation temps from the start but It made me wonder about room temp fermentation. Has anybody brewed several styles at ~75-~80 and compared beers?

Say an IPA fermented at 70 vs ~80.

I'd be nervous to test a batch of IPA at 80 degrees but I am curious.

Homebrew Clubs / What Denver area clubs are fairly active?

I'm looking to join a club in the Denver area and when I look at the links from here some of them are dead, some have boards where the last post was in 2009..   

In a perfect world it would be a club with at least a monthly meeting or every other on a wed, thur, or Fri. Or at least some activity during those days. I work Sat/Sun and could not participate much in a strictly weekend get together club.

Any suggestions?

Plus if anybody here moderates those club links I think a few of them for CO are folded up...
