Kegging and Bottling / Re: Taking Newly Bottled Beer on a Plane
« on: April 27, 2013, 04:12:30 AM »
I had considered doing this myself the last time I flew out to see an old college buddy. I spoke to someone at the airline (Southwest) and they advised that bringing beer (either carry on or checked) onto a plane is not a problem as long as the beer is in a clearly labelled (aka commercial) bottle.  When I told her that my homebrew was in a plain brown bottle she advised against it. Not wanted to risk losing some of my precious beer (not to mention some of my dignity during the inevitable cavity search) I ended up shipping it instead.

I tend to keg my session beers. That way when I say "just another half a glass" (usually more than once) I can't get myself into too much trouble.

Star San for me.  Used to use iodophor but didn't like the way it stains my equipment (and counter tops).

5 gallon batch?   If your kettle will fit in the sink give it a nice ice bath.  I keep the lid off until the temp gets under 140 degrees. Then I put the lid on, soak a towel in the ice cold water and drape it over the top. I can usually chill down to pitching temp within 45 minutes.

Kegging and Bottling / Re: Two Tap Kegging setup Question

The cheapest and easiest setup would be one CO2 bottle feeding a single output regulator, feeding a dual output manifold.
I agree...this is the best way to go as long as you don't mind using the same psi for all your kegs

I have a Hallmark program on my PC that the wife uses to make Birthday cards, etc......It also has a section for making shipping labels which I use to make labels for my special brews.  The last 2 years, the kids have made the drawings that were used to make the labels on my Christmas Ale.

I have a friend who lives in Wisconsin. In 2011 he invited me out for a very long weekend (Thursday through Sunday) of brewery tours. Here is a link to my blog about the trip.
http://dudesbrews.webs.com/apps/blog/.  We are going to start planning another one for later this year.
