Not to nitpick, and I know that not everything is perfect. But promash could be updated with the most current hop varieties. I know the alpha acids could be entered manually, but the program would be a luxury to have if the newer hop varieties were already in the program.
I know this may be complicated but I would some how like to see an app. or tool for inserting hop beta acids as a way to give more recipe description to those hoppier beers. Just something that could give more detail to a beers formulation.

I'm in the D.C. area until August 10th. Any recomendations of good breweries, micro Pubs, beer stores, festivals, etc? Any suggestions on good happy hours would be appreciated. I'm using the Metro as my primary sorurce of transportation.
I was craving an easy drinking beer so I bought a six pack of Guiness black lager at a local liquor store and it tasted like liquid cardboard. I wount go to that liquor store again.

In my experience the wire hood sometimes slips off the lip of the Champange bottles, and the plastic cork does pop off. Even if the wire hood is twisted tight, I had some really nice beer splash every where. I noticed that the only time the plastic cork did pop off was when I bumped the bottles. I no longer use the plastic corks.

Conversely, what substance would have an effect on flavor that phosphoric acid does not?
Lactic acid adds lactates... in large enough amounts it will contribute a sour flavor. Sulfuric acid adds sulfates.

Ingredients / Re: Where to buy Corn Sugar?

I use all different types of sugar that fit into the flavor profile of all different styles of beer. Sometimes cane sugar for a Belgian beers, or sometimes molasses for English Old Ale's. I like using corn sugar to bottle, and sometimes I like using it to add gravity while drying out my IIPA's. I guess I could use some good ol' table sugar instead of corn sugar but It's kind of been a habit to use corn sugar for IIPA's.
I'm up for trying new things. Suggestions?

I do like to support my local home brew shop. However, I would much rather buy corn sugar at a bargain price. I've checked VONS, Ralphs and local grocery stores in my area, but they seem to not carry it.
Other than the local home brew shops where can corn sugar be bought?

I lived up in the bay 4 years ago and I don't remember much out in Mountain View. The Tied House is just "ok" IMO. I think you're best bet is to make a trip down to San Jose, or Palo Alto. The area you'll be visiting is home base to Gordon Biersch brew pubs. The original Gordon Biersch is in Palo Alto and the one in San Jose rocks with live jazz bands on week nights. Lately, they have been brewing some more trendier beers at the brewpubs.
Or you could just get some fresh (GB) Gordon Biersch at the Mineta San Jose airport.
