Sounds yummy! Maybe the name is a nod to the band Wilco, who have an album called Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

If you make it to Boulder, you might not leave. I was stuck there for 6 years. I agree on Avery. Then there's the Mountain and/or Southern Sun for the experience (though I admit it's not my favorite beer), and I suggest checking out the Drafthouse on 13th. It's what used to be the Redfish. I was there on a recent trip and was really impressed with their beers. Food menu looks good, too.

The Pub / Re: Healthy Beer

I agree that if you're trying to only add to the beer in terms of substance, like vitamins or caffeine or something, then it's ridiculous. But if the ingredients enhance or add to the flavor of the beer, then why not? And, I think if you're going to do some interesting blending, do it with lambic. It's been happening for ages.

Zwanze...

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: What are your house styles?
« on: April 12, 2010, 11:15:53 AM »
I always have a Belgian in the house, since I married her.

As for beer, I don't brew enough (probably because I don't drink enough) to really have a house style. In fact, I've never duplicated a batch. That will change with a dark "lager" I made recently. I was inspired by 1554 (New Belgium) and used Cal. Lager yeast. I liked it a lot more than I expected.

Should I say that we're going back in aug. -> amsterdam 2 days , before heading down to Belgium to watch the F1 car races along with a proper beer-tour thurout the area.

Will you be sticking to the south or will you be spending any time in the Brussels area?

The Pub / Re: OK homebrewers, where should I live?

It's hard to beat Colorado. I lived in Boulder for 6 years and loved it. I now live in Belgium and love it here, too. Maybe I'm just another fan of "B" places.

The Pub / Re: Beer tracking app?

Thanks, all. I've done a little more searching and it looks like there's a ratebeer app that should do what I want. BeerPad also looks interesting, but a bit much at 5 bucks.

The Pub / Beer tracking app?
« on: March 19, 2010, 05:44:59 AM »
Does anybody know of a decent beer tracking app for either android and/or iphone? I'm looking for something where I can simply take a photo of the beer and add related notes.

Congrats! I went all-grain 5 batches ago. I don't know what took me so long.

If you prefer to shop locally, try a head shop (you know, stores that sell equipment made for perfectly legal tobacco use).

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Beer bartering?
« on: February 28, 2010, 12:54:42 AM »
I read these answers and think: Really? Is it that big of a deal? When a fried comes over and I offer him a beer I am actually exchanging a product for quality time with said friend. I should probably be taxed, since that's an exchange of goods for services. Or, if you go to someone's house for a party, usually you expect to be fed and usually you would bring something like some beer or a bottle of wine for the host. It's not officially an exchange, but that's what it is. So, maybe if you don't actually barter, but instead exchange gifts, it would be acceptable.

Is Duvel hoppy? How would you describe it? Wait, that's dumb. I'll just pick some up and find out.

Good idea. You can't go wrong with Duvel. It's a clean, fairly dry, well-balanced beer. It's one of my wife's favorites and a must for accompanying grilled tuna melts.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: What's brewing this weekend 2/5

Not this weekend, but tomorrow (Wednesday) I'm brewing my first Pilsner (a sort of steam pils, actually).

It depends on the beer and my mood, but I do find myself going in the same direction as you and pouring it out less and less.
