Cock ale recipe came from a book from the mid 1600's called The Closet of the Eminently Learned Sir Kenelme Digby and involved aging a beer with rooster & spices. Google it if you want, I'm just not that interested in the recipe...... though if I had a dead mouse in my carboy (nice and aged at that) I might be tempted.... but probably not.

According to the Blichmann website, it is designed to work with pellets.

Of course, it could also work with whole hops. I've never seen one in operation so don't know how well it works.

Regardless of whether you go with the kit, or try to create your own additives ala Dr. Beer; I'd highly suggest that you mix your pitchers of  samples at a high strength to begin with. Make sure that your sample is strong enough to be well over the average threshold of perception. You want to really fix that taste in peoples minds, and that's hard unless the example is very clear & forward. After the first go-round sets the taste and the participants know what they're looking for, you can then add more base beer to dilute the sample and present it at a lower threshold and see if folks can still pick it up.

being new to the forum, I don't know weazletoe. and so have no idea if there's any link between the name and Weasels Ripped my Flesh, but to cross link this to a couple of other threads .... it did bring up a rather scary image of little weasels in kilts, all brewing regimental.

Haven't blended my beer, but I have blended some of my meads. The meads, being still, presented less of a challenge. Assuming your beer is finished & carbonated, it's a bit more difficult. But basic procedure would be the same.

You want to start at your bar or kitchen table with the base beers, a measuring cup or cylinder, and a bunch of glasses. Blend in varying, carefully measured proportions and do some comparative tasting until you get the mix right to your taste. You could then fill a keg with the selected proportions of the two (or more) beers, carbonate and you're ready to serve from the keg or fill bottles as desired.
