General Homebrew Discussion / Now Accepting AHA Governing Committe Nominations

AHA Members - if you're interested in becoming more involved in your organization, consider running for the American Homebrewers Association Governing Committee.

There are three seats opening up on the committee next summer. Nominations are due by December 1, 2011. If you plan to nominate someone, please get her/his consent before submitting.

AHA Learn to Homebrew Day is November 5, 2011.

To help you prepare for your AHA Learn to Homebrew Day event, please take advantages of the resources posted on www.homebrewersassociation.org/pages/events/learn-to-homebrew-day/how-to-celebrate.

•   Download a writeable PDF of the Learn to Homebrew Day poster.  Once you fill in your event information, print it out and hang up in your local homebrew shop or at a club meeting.. http://bit.ly/LTHD_Poster

•   Use the customizable press release. Again, personalize this document and send it to your local paper. (Since this is a word doc, you have to go to the website to open.)

•   Request copies of Zymurgy: An Introduction to Homebrewing. Please email me, Kathryn@BrewersAssociation.org, with the number of copies you need and where to send them.

READ FIRST: Learn To Homebrew Day: Site Registration & Resources / AHA Learn to Homebrew Day - Site Registration

AHA Learn to Homebrew Day is November 5, 2011.

 You must register with the AHA Forum to register your site.   If you have not yet registered, please follow the instructions here: http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?topic=3025.0

To create the post for your site, follow these steps.
1.   Open the thread for your state (under Learn to Homebrew Day) to register your site.

2.   Start a New Topic with your CITY listed first in the subject line.  This will help people quickly locate events in their area.  (Ex. BOULDER – Porter’s Brew Club)

3.   In the body of the message, include the Who, What, Where, When, and How information about your site.  Leave your email or phone number for people to contact you for more information. 

4.   Include information about how you’re brewing (extract, partial mash, or all grain), beer styles you’ll brew, whether people need to bring anything (apps, beer, equipment), or just show up, etc.

5.   You can include an rsvp option, map link for directions, photos, or whatever you like.

The 2011 AHA National Homebrewers Conference, June 16-18, is sure to be an incredible time. There are plenty of fun and interesting pre-conference events to attend, but they are filling up quickly.

Some events include brewery tours of popular local breweries, beer pairings, pub crawls, a wine tour and even a beer cruise! Be sure you have a spot and register today!

The entry deadline for the AHA / Lallemand Scholarship coming up quickly. Get your entry in before midnight (MT) June 1, 2011.

The Lallemand Scholarship is awarded to a member of the American Homebrewers Association, and provides full tuition to the web-based World Brewing Academy's Concise Course in Brewing Technology (August 21 to November 20, 2011).

Thank all of you for participating in AHA Big Brew 2011! You are the people that make this event special and allow new brewers to see how much fun it is to be a part of the homebrewing community. Thank you for sharing your experiences and good luck brewing in the future. We got an amazing turn out across the country with over 290 sites, 1030 batches (7,941 gallons!) and over 3,750 participants reported so far.

This year there was a great collection of videos to choose from. There were videos with personalized mash paddles, all sorts of great, unique gadgets and systems, and of course plenty of brewing. The most important thing however is that AHA Big Brew is an event which brings homebrewers of all different skill levels and backgrounds together. As always, we encourage and support the growth of AHA homebrew clubs and the development of talented homebrewers alike.
