I don't think it's ergot. I think some types of rye are just intersting colors. The flaked rye I brewed with the other day had a blue/green tint to it's 'husk' bits as well.

and I would not recommend eating ergot laden rye. Go find a hippy who's holding if you want that kind of fun.

I'm with the "it's normal' crowd.  Every batch of rye I've bought, from different suppliers, looks bluish to me.

Thanks for all the input.  I'll be drinking the beer in about a week, so I'm either going to hallucinate marvelously    and possibly die  , or I'll just have a nice beer  .

Every rye I have ever bought looks like that and it makes the best American Rye!  Not to worry!

Fwiw I think the "ergot" comment was facetious. Or at least it was on my part. Does look normal to me. Even the flaked rye has a blue tint, though more subtle perhaps.

That's true. But I had enough experiences in my college days where someone said "Hey let's watch 'The Wall' right now" at a particularly bad time for me where I feel the need to qualify that statement.

FWIW, it is not ergot. ergotine cysts are very dark and more resemble
grains of wild rice.
