Yeah, my first reaction to this was "well, bummer". Second reaction was "thank god they won't drag him out every year for New Year's now." It was just sad, although I'm fairly certain that Dick was the primary reason he was still out there.

Lots of New Years Eve memories of Dick counting down the seconds. I remember his American Bandstand show as well. He won't be forgotten.
