What's Brewing This Weekend - 4/27 Edition
« on: April 25, 2012, 10:32:10 AM »
Hi ho! Hi ho! It's the full fledged busy season for homebrewers here in SoCal!

Maybe a little brewing later this week, but right now it looks like it's going to be all packaging and judging all the time.

If you're in the SoCal area this Saturday, please, please, please consider helping judge at this years Mayfaire comp. We had 550 entries registered and we need to judge them all! (http://competitions.maltosefalcons.com/2012Mayfaire/

No brewing.  Bottling batch 2 of 2.  Bottled my pale ale yesterday on my day off, and this saturday I'll be bottling my hefeweizen.
Bottled: Summer Breeze Pale Ale, Barrett's Irish Red Ale, Apprentice Amber, Hefeweizen
Fermenting: Nada
On Deck: Something with Apricots, Hoppy Blonde with WL1007.

A couple of firsts for me this weekend:  My first barley wine and my first attempt at partigyle.  I'm making a Bitter out of the second runnings.

Howd yours turn out Mort? Just tasted mine this past weekend. Denny your yeast is great! The 5 gallons with 1450 were bready and rich and the beer tasted like pumpernickel bread. The 5 gallons with 002 I didnt care for too much.

Im making an attempt at an Orval clone this weekend since I have a vial of Belgian Bastogne to use.

it was lovely, I brewed 10 gallons, put ~5 in my rum barrel for a couple weeks. I way over shot my mash temps so it went from 1.042 to 1.016. it was chewy and rich, just a little roasty with a nice rye bite.

We're doing a split batch Czech Pils with two different yeasts: WYeast 2124 and 2278.  We're also kegging and starting the lagering process for a Schwarzbier that we hope to serve at NHC Club Night.

Well, can't brew this weekend because I am going to be at a conference with my students. But I took the day off of work today and brewed a Mild. Nice fairly smooth brew day. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Depending on how well I handle myself at my brother's bachelor party on Saturday, I may brew a golden English bitter on Sunday.   :P  I'm calling it Gold Sovereign Pub Ale since I'm using sovereign finishing hops, it's gold in color, and it will be served on nitro.
