Building a kegerator
« on: September 17, 2012, 10:14:18 AM »
I've got a fridge with 2 kegs in it already, so i figure I might as well turn it into a kegerator seeing as how the GF has pre-approved moving it into the house (shes a beer nerd too).

So, what do I need, what should I watch out for, etc? Any advice greatly appreciated!

The one thing I would recommend is using Perlick faucets. Seems the cheaper ones tend to stick. Well worth the extra couple bucks. I bought this, http://www.williamsbrewing.com/PERLICK-FORWARD-SEAL-FAUCET-WITH-SHANK-P1476.aspx. All I had to do was drill hole in door for the shank, then remove the picnic tap from the hose, and clap hose to nipple. Done and done. I also got another temp controller for my kegerator. http://titaniumbrewing.com/?p=207

I am really happy with the tower I bought from American Coffee Urn (ACU Metal Fab).
This was a few years ago so there may be a better option today.

I agree, though I'd get a setup with a 3/16" barb. You'll need less beer line to balance the system that way. It seems that buying the taps as a unit like that is cheaper than buying the individual parts.

Ran into a guy at the local who used to brew and quit. Ended up selling me his for 200 bucks. Nice 2 tap setup. Thanks for the input regardless.

Very nice! Looks just like my Sanyo 4912. Coming close on getting rid of the cobra taps and doing as you've done.

Me, too.  My problem is that I acquired two single tap towers, and I want a double tap tower.

I either need to sell/exchange or try to adapt.

Too many things to do, not enough time...

But the cobra taps work, so there is no harm in patience.

Amen to that. There's a keg in it now with a cobra tap on it until I have the time to clean the kegerator lines and get it up and running  ::)
