OK, here's the best part. We posted a Q on a Guinea Pig forum about what to do and are getting fussed at for buying our Pig at a pet store and for not being aware of proper care. I wanted to tell them I made a yeast starter and read How to Brew, but I didn't think they'd get it. 

Where else do you buy Guinea Pigs?  I understand that there are plenty of cats and dogs that need to be adopted from shelters, but I doubt too many people see a Guinea Pig walking down the street and drop it off at the local animal control...

In the Huancayo region, the cuy is preferred fried with a sauce of pepper and achiote. In Arequipa, it is prepared baked as cuy chaktado and in Cuzco, it is baked whole, as a small suckiling pig, with a hot pepper in its mouth.

I have to admit that sounds rather delicious!  I've always maintained that the delicious "cho cho beef" at a local Chinese place were more likely marinated deboned squirrel filets on skewers.  At least now I know something to try aside from ceviche and pisco should I ever get down Peru-way!

Yeah, they are pretty darn cute. They run around following mama oiking constantly (guinea pigs do oink!) I am going to take some pics with my son holding them tonight. They are too small to eat ... mama on the other hand.
