Keezer of...well not death but certainly unpleasantness
« on: January 08, 2013, 03:35:06 PM »
So I opened my keg freezer yesterday and I noticed that some yeast I had in there had fallen to the bottom.  I bent down to get it and suddenly my eyes started burning and breathing felt very odd, hard to describe.  It seems that I've had a slow leak for a while and my freezer was completely full of CO2 so I was bobbing for yeast in a big tub of gas.  Obviously CO2 isn't going to kill me right away or anything but it wasn't the most pleasurable experience.

Wow, be careful!  It might not kill you right away, but if you pass out with your head in there you're done.

Seriously.  I've opened my fermenting chest with 4 lagers going and bent in to adjust the blow off tube.  I almost passed out from all the CO2 and Sulphur.

Yeah, be careful, it feels like death. I still do it on accident, forgetting that the freezer is full of CO2. I pull my head out and I start huffing and puffing...

I'm considering leaving the drain plug open on my new chest freezer/fermentation chamber for just that reason.

;D It'll be on the second floor (once I get my act together and drag thing thing out of the garage already). So it'll have to turn into a whole House of Death.
