Groundhog's Day!
« on: February 02, 2011, 08:19:29 am »
Maybe this should go into the "fridgid weather brewing" thread... it will be well below zero when I get home from work tonight and brew. And I will be in the garage!
I almost always brew on Groundhog's Day. Usually a stout. Not always the same recipe. Giving a Hitachino Sweet Stout recipe a shot tonight. Just so happens I grew up about an hour from Punxsutawney PA. If I recall correctly I started doing this when I was a really gung-ho new brewer and thought +20F was balmy for early February in Minnesota. I had just moved here. I was right, +20F was balmy...
I also always brew on Veteran's Day.
Anyone else have any specific dates they brew on?!?

Today (Groundhog's Day) is my 31st wedding anniversary.

Congrats!  That's unusual these days.  (Our 34th will be in June)

I brew on most holiday weekends.

Oh, and to answer the OP - no, I don't have any specific dates when I normally brew.

Thanks all!  It's my wife's favorite "holiday" since it involves a furry animal.

I try to take the day off for my birthday every year (2/14) to brew.  That's my plan again this year.

Congrats Denny!

There were so many detours on my way to work due to snow/ice/flooding, that I seriously considered turing around and going back home to brew a beer.  But alas, I made it in to my office.

Born on Valentine's Day, married on Groundhog's Day?  February is a busy month for you!

Ok everyone, here's a visual . . . Denny as cherub/cupid.

Now try to get that out of your head. ;D

Congrats Denny! and Jeffy too...

A valentines b-day Denny. I'll have to try to remember that. Happy B-day.

OP's question: I don't have a specific date but try to brew every three weeks. It doesn't always work out that way but I come pretty close throughout the year.

My eyes, my eyes!!!

Back on topic, September 20th is the birthday of Jay Ward, one of the creators of Rocky and Bullwinkle, among other classics. On that date every year I brew Hokey Smokes, a Belgian specialty that changes every year. 2010 marked the 90th anniversary of his birth, so the beer was 90 gravity. Next year will be 1.091, etc.

Our oldest cat is Moose (of Frostbite Falls). His late brother was (Rocket J.) Squirrel. Our two youngsters are Boris and Natasha. Not sure what we're going to do about the next name, when the times comes.

I did not know it existed. If I ever go to LA again, I'll certainly track it down. Now, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!
