Peanut Butter
« on: February 14, 2011, 02:37:21 PM »
I just learnt of a Peanut Butter Porter. The recipe says to use the oil off the top of a jar of natural peanut butter.

I wonder about the wisdom of using peanut oil as a flavouring agent....

Maybe use crushed unsalted dry roasted peanuts in the mash?

I've had a smoked hefeweizen before, that gets you the banana and bacon.  I'm not sure I would add peanut butter to that beer, but I would try it :)

I guess I would "try" a glass... but yep I'm not into any of the beers that taste like something else really.  Now if somebody said beer with a subtle pb taste... I might be more interested but to make a beer that tastes like pb... yeck!  LOL!   :D  It reminds me ... I just saw a show where they made jellybeans with wierd tastes... earwax... puke...  :o   Why oh Why would Anyone want to eat candy that tasted like something the body expells?!!  Weirdos!!!!   :D

I work in Fairfield CA where they make the Jelly Bellies (Bertie Botts All Flavor Beans). Haven't taken the factory tour yet though

Oh, I think it sounds horrible. I was just intrigued by the idea. And yes, I think it sounds nasty.

Google says it's Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans.  Between all of us and google we can figure it out :)

Although it looks like maybe Jelly Belly lost the rights, since now they list them as BeanBoozled on their website.

Wouldn't the oil from the peanuts kill the flavor anyway?

I say just have some phad thai with your weizenbier and call it a day!

...not that I haven't been interested in rather oddball beers myself.

Hey, you could make a pad thai beer by mashing with rice noodles and roasted peanuts, steeping with birdseye chilies and basil and dosing with fish sauce!

(blearggghhh!!!)
