Doesn't make it any more appealing with the i before the e either.

"I before E except after C" is one of the rules of our language, the english language.  The weird (notice the two vowels I and E) and humorous part is that there are a ton of words we use which don't follow the rule.  Well, Budweiser happens to be a Czech word or town to be more specific.  The Czech and German languages obviously don't have to follow the rules of the english language.

Now that I've taken all the life from guy's (lame but funny) joke, I'll just say: welcome to the site, guy.

That's a hard rule.  That's a rough rule.
