So I was reading the Mother Earth News this morning,
and they had an article on homemade liquid fertilizers.

Human urine came up,
and they advocated putting a bucket of sawdust on the deck
to aim at
with the goal of producing a nutrient-rich mulch for use in your garden.

Hmmmm, what say you fellow gardeners?

I am thinking I waste a lot of valuable resources off the front porch every morning!

I know that it can be a fertilizer.  Other than that I will wait for those with greener thumbs than mine to comment.

There is an Edward Abbey quote that comes to mind.  I will try to paraphase to the best of my memory.

"A man is never truely indepednent unless he can make his own beer and piss off the porch".

I wouldn't want human urine on any plants I was growing for food, especially root vegetables, the ick factor is a bit too high.

And I think you should have a nice green patch off your front porch

I have to walk around the corner of the yard to the treeline...but I frequently give em a dose of Nitrogen....

They seem no worse for wear...oh yeah maybe they are where I get my juniper berries ....kind of puts
an entire new meaning to the term Belgian Bier Funk.

In addition, as long as you're not a vegetarian, the urine acts as a pest repellent.  Rabbits, deer, and such tend to stay away from "carnivore urine".  You can go out and buy expensive versions at the store or you can just provide it yourself.

This is a good recent to pee near the garden, but in it? 

Maybe I need to start peeing next to my plum tree, to keep the damn deer from pruning it.  They're going to kill it if they don't stop.

I could see what pinnah said about in a pile of FINE sawdust. Then you could put that
in the compost pile where it would undergo the "sweat" rendering it just wonderful for
gardening IMO.  Besides that, methinks it is considered sterile upon exit...

than the "Sanitary" condition required for our beloved hobby of brewing.

Edit: further down the page it does say that upon exit it has managed to get some bacteria
so this  term " sterile" is variable.

General wisdom here in Puna is if you piss on the base of your mango tree it will produce more and sweeter mangos.

No mango growers in Florida ever told me about this.  Maybe it has something to do with volcanic soil vs sandy soil.

Peeing on the compost nitrifies it and helps it break down, and benefitting the fertilization it yields. Same idea as rotting horse manure.

About a decade ago I attended a Home and Garden show, and listened to a talk by Paul James, host of gardening and cooking shows on HGTV. In the Q&A someone asked him about getting rid of moles. His opinion was that the best repellent by far was human urine. At this point the guy in front of me said, "But they're too damn fast!", which broke up the whole room. A couple years later I had a major mole problem, and tried it. It works!

I don't think I'd use it on any food crops. I know mine is loaded with ibuprofen, glucosamine, and Flonase residues

urine is high in nitrogen, and nitrogen can be very beneficial to plants.  However you can also provide too much N, which can burn them - especially if they are already getting nitrogen as part of other feedings.

I pee on the compost bin all the time.  It gets tended in and builds the nature of the compost.

As for the ick factor above, meh.  A little pee is no worse than huge chunks of cow manure in terms of ick factor, but the plants love it.

When I put my vegetable plants in I'll pee everywhere. Dang cats do it. Why not me? If urine can keep them from crapping in my raised beds I will use it. After all there is a plentiful supply.
