If Kiavara includes "F G Ab C Db E F G" and is in the tonic of C, looks like it is in the Bhairav thaat, which is:
Sa Re(kemal) Ga Ma Pa Dha(kemal) Ni Sa'. Basically a major scale with a flattened second and flattened sixth. However, they don't intimate from their tuning what the Nishadh or seventh tone would be (flattened or natural). Not sure why they consider it harmonic minor...the third is unmistakably natural!
Edit: Here is someone to whose workshop I've been, got me started on sitar...he's playing the tuned pitch tabla tarang, fantastic instrument, similar to these tuned drums. Tuned to a basic minor pentatonic.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvNO3aCDkKM
