The American Homebrewers Association/Brewers Association has recently sent Action Alert emails to our AHA/BA Support Your Local Brewery Members in Mississippi and Oklahoma regarding legislation in those states that would legalize homebrewing. The success of this kind of homebrew legalization campaign is dependent on grassroots activism. If you are a resident of Mississippi or Oklahoma, please contact your legislators, it will only take a few minutes, but each contact from a constituent makes a big difference when legislators are deciding how they will vote.
In Mississippi, there are bills filed in both the House and Senate. We are asking that homebrewers and beer enthusiasts in Mississippi contact their Representatives and Senators and ask them to support the homebrew bills. Mississippi also has bills in the House and Senate to increase the allowable alcohol by weight (ABW) for beer sold in the state. If you are a Mississippi resident, please check out the action alert and take action to help legalize homebrewing in your state. Spread the word to anyone you know who lives in Mississippi.
In Oklahoma, House Bill 2348 has been assigned to the Oklahoma House Economic Development and Financial Services Committee. We are asking Oklahoma homebrewers and beer enthusiasts to contact the committee members and urge them to support the bill. Special thanks go to Mustang Brewing Co President Tim Schoelen for putting AHA member Gary Shellman in touch with Representative Colby Schwartz, who agreed to sponsor the homebrew bill.
Not resting until homebrewing is legal in all 50 states,
