Who we are and how we got started/why we got started:
Co-founders Stacy Collins and Sean O'Brien gathered brewers together to brew in 2008. Several people expressed that the local clubs seemed to be too rigid in structure and focused on gathering funds for the club. They wanted to belong to a different type of club. Thus began a loosely structured organization of a bunch of like-minded brewers focused on beer and brewing.
From the EGBG charter: "We're a rag-tag group, continuing to learn by being with like-minded people who love brewing."
EGBG meets at a different member's nano brewery on the third Friday of each month to discuss events, brewing techniques and sample beer. Occasionally, we brew at our meetings.
Six of our members are current Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) Judges, one is a Grand Master level two. Therefore, we judge a lot of beer competitions, including the World Beer Cup, California State Fair and local competitions. Individual members have won several state fair and local competitions as well.
As mentioned above, we judge a lot of competitions. We also visit a lot of breweries and foster relationships with the local breweries and pubs. We have hosted Oktoberfest with a live band the last two years, as well as Learn to Homebrew Day.
Our annual club competition is sponsored at different breweries in the area. We have also had a booth at the Northern California Homebrew Festival for the last three years. In addition, a couple of our members make the pilgrimage to the Great American Beer Festival.
