C'mon in, pull up a chair, and have a delicious adult beverage! This is a place to tell jokes, talk about your family, ask how to fix something...that kind of stuff. This isn't a place to call people names or make fun of them. Please avoid discussion of politics, religion, or race. As long as we all understand that, it's gonna be a lot of fun! And just to be sure everybody understands, the mods are the sole arbiters of what's inappropriate here. Their decision is final.
And PLEASE BE SURE to read the Rules of the AHA Discussion Forum at http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?topic=32.0 (http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?topic=32.0) . That way we'll be sure we're all on the same page!

Hey Denny, Like the look, you need a new avatar though ;D, JK.
Jim
-
Hi Jim! Glad you're here.
-
Howdy folks. Looks like I need an avatar!
-
Yeah, something classy!
-
Just saying hello.
-
Yeah, something classy!
well that wouldn't fit me at all!
-
Hey everybody! Good to see some familiar faces. :D
-
Yeah, I agree. I post in a lot of forums (fora?) and I'm hoping to see a real cross section from all of them here.
-
Hey Folks!
Just stumbled across the AHA forum today (not sure why it took me so long).
Looking really nice, and looking forward to this place being a source to give and get help.
And have a good time!
Cheers!
-
It's always fun to be only 26 posts behind Denny ;)
I'm glad to see familiar names. Is this going to be a mass exodus from the NB forum?
Kai
-
I plan on hanging out here as well, good to see you guys...

welcome don. what took you so long? (The forum just opened yesterday.) ;)

I personally have bounced from forum to forum over the years. Originally in the early 90's I got a tremendous amount of knowledge from the Home Brew Digest. Cats Meow helped me design some recipes early on. Then, of course, choices became numerous and I skipped from one to another.
Perhaps it is because of my volunteer work for the AHA, or perhaps because I need to focus (ha - that's an understatement!), I likely will kick around here a little longer, see who I meet, what I learn, see what sort of entertainement and educational value I get from these forums. Actually, I have pretty high hopes, as we are a collections of homebrewers from around the country who are all members of the AHA thing.
As likely the case for everyone here, I am a member some really good clubs. I can send emails to the collective of either club, and likely get a fairly downtown set of replies. I hope that my inquiries here will cast a wider net and garner additional data points and insights. Wow, that sounded so official :o
-
Wow, that sounded so official :o
Well, you're an official kinda guy....
-
Hey Hey Hey! (In my Fat Albert voice) Many of the ol standby from NB are here already! Looks like it will be a good time!
-
Hey guys!
-
Hey, Ryan!
Everybody give Ryan a big congrats on the birth of his beautiful baby daughter!
-
BIG CONGRATS FROM ME
Hope you get some sleep in the next 6 months. ;)
-
Congrats, Ryan!
-
Congrats Ryan, guess you're surrounding yourself with women! ;)
-
WooooHooo!!! Nice to see some familiar faces here. Gives ya that warm & fuzzy feelin' like you're home again. Looking forward to spending some "quality" time on this forum as well!!!

Congatulations to you Ryan and the wife.

So, here's numero uno. Glad to be here.

Greetings from northern Colorado. Love the new look of the AHA web site. Just had to sign up for the forum. Looking forward to learning and sharing stories about homebrewing. I'm an extract homebrewer at the moment and studying up on all-grain. Hope to try an all-grain batch soon after I get a few more extract batches under my belt.
-
and it begins......
Glad to see some familiar faces.....
Denny, love what you've done with the place.... ;D
-
Hello All,
I have been on the BN for about a year and a half, and lurk in all the other usual forums. Haven't been as active as I would like due to a number of things, but want to get back into it. I hope to get back to brewing more regularly in the next few weeks. Hope to share lots of good info, horror stories, and fun in the future!
Mitch
-
Thanks guys! :D Hopefully I'll get a chance to stop by this forum more often. :D
-
Looks like standing room only guys...but I'm here.
-

Yeah, like at 2AM holding a baby and a baby bottle in one hand and typing with then other.
-
Oh yeah...Congrats again Ryan. I have two daughters as well. You now have three bosses. ;D
-
Just stopping by to check out the new forum and AHA site. Looking good!! I see a couple people from the B3 forum are here too.
-
Hello to everyone. This looks to be the place to hang. 8)

Finally, there is an AHA forum I know how to use. I never could figure out or really take the time and patience to participate in the old email message board.
Anyway, a bit about me. I am Steve and I live in South Louisiana right outside Baton Rouge toward New Orleans. My regular job is as a Paramedic with the City of Baton Rouge. I have been a medic for right at 30 years. I am married with 3 kids still at home.
Brewing wise I brew all grain and started out brewing that way. I bought a keggerator from a dude on Craigslist and he threw in all of his beer equipment hence how I got into brewing beer all grain. I had brewed one extract batch with a buddy prior. I have worked my way from the coolers to a commercial sculpture system.
I actually started out as a winemaker and still make wine. I am a moderator for a large winemaking forum and an Administrator for another. I am a member of a few beer forums but this is the forum I have been waiting for. I don't know how many times I wrote AHA requesting it. If the info here is as good as the email list, it is gonna be a leader. I am a forum freak and look forward to learning, sharing, and helping this forum grow.

Kai
I'm betting the exodus is underway. I just got here, but this is looking very comfortable and already feels like home. Thanks Denny and anyone else that made this happen. It's cool to be on a board run by brewers rather than vendors. I especially appreciate the effort to have an off topic section that isn't packed full of political BS. This is shaping up to be one hell of a gathering of brewers and I'm really looking forward to it

Good evening everyone! Glad to see a lot of familiar names. Congrats on the daughter's birthday, Ryan. We'll have one of our own in February. Until then, I'm brewing as much as I can!

Woot!

Hey all,
This is Tom. My wife Teri and I both brew and we just happen to live 10 minutes from Denny! ;D

Guess who. Now let's get this party started!

Yup, Woodlawn is still going strong. They built a new campus about 4 years ago or so south on Jefferson Highway just north of Antioch. There is a new middle school where the high school was. My step son goes to Woodlawn High and my step daughter goes to the Middle School. My wife is a Woodlawn graduate as well. She graduated in 81.

Howdy Denny. Site looks good. I see membership is starting to ramp up...and glad to see The Pub.
Cheers
-
Hey guys! Just wanted to drop a quick hello and check in. Now I'm off to MASH in - Dean Larson's SNCA. Cheers!
-
Tubercle reporting in, Sir!
-
Here too.
-
Who brought the beer?
-
Late to the party, but I made it. Can't chase this canuck away that easily :D
-
Joining up.
Some differences I see here... The Weaze has only 8 posts, and the Major can now ban you for pitching warm.
-
Hi all,
Hope you don't mind me crashin' in.

It is beer30 here.
Glad to have stumbled in.
Cheers.

Im here too, finally changed my avatar too.
What do ya think?
-
Hot dog! You made it. I never realized how much you and Julia look alike.
-
Yeah I do. When I cook I act like her as well. I do a mean impersonation of julia.
Now if only I could find that outfit of hers.
-
Looks to be a good start at a forum. If it keeps going well this could be my new go-to forum for sound advice and relaxation. That makes me so happy.

-
Congratulations Ryan.

I love it. Now you have raised the bar. What a wonderful cook, and great person she was. Bon Appetit!
-
Morning people :)
-
Im here too, finally changed my avatar too.
What do ya think?
What do I think??? It's JULIA, I love it! I started watching here when I was 12 years old (long before most of you were born). She got me to make a chocolate souffle when I was 13. It turned out perfectly and I was hooked on cooking. The love of cooking is what got me into brewing, so I suppose that indirectly Julia is responsible me my brewing addiction!
-
i thought it was awesome when she said, " you can also chop up a live lobster and add that too".......and then she would stick her hand in a chicken, then without washing her hands, she would start handling veggies.
good stuff,
darth
-
That is because there was no plumbing to the prop sink.
Also, there was virtually no concept of sanitation back in the olden days. ;D
I learned to cook watching Julia too. Then later it was Jeff Smith. Now, I look back and cringe at some of their methods.

So....Is it taboo to talk freely about NB here or no? Denny?
Not trying to start anything....just want to talk about it without the thread getting deleted in 2.5 seconds....
Anyways....glad to be here...just getting weird over there....
I'm certainly not trying to speak for anybody but my self but I'm sure a NB topic would be fine as long as it stayed within the rules of the forum. The administrators and moderators will have to decide what that will be.
As for me, I'd as soon leave the trash talk at the "other place" where it belongs. Not trying to stifle any self expression because I value that highly and when you're limited, so am I, and I don't like that.
We can have a new beginning here. We know what went on there and maybe its best left to die.
Welcome, brewing brother. <raises pint>
On to higher thoughts, nobler deeds and greater achievements.
-
LET IT DIE ALREADY!!!!! PLEASE!!!!
-
WHAT??? Julia's somewhat unsanitary methods?
-
Yeah, those too! ;D
-
Man, did I have a fun trying to set up my account. I kept getting a "you are not authorized to do that!"

hello wilypig,
that's a wealth of experience, it's great to be among the heavyweights. i'm a beginner, but i was the first one in my school to wear one white shoelace on the left foot and a black one on the right, so you could say i'm a self starter.

Here I am! Changed my avatar from the cooler and t-shirt covered fermenter, but I'm not sure I posted enough to be extremely recognized over at NB anyway.

Hey Denny! great site! I plan to spend some serious time here. :)
-
Hi red! Really glad to see ya here, man! I think you'll see a real difference here from the other place.
-
Yup, you certainly don't want to bring any of the PUI topics with you, that we, Denny and many others have discussed over there.
Well...I am friggin out then.
;D
-
Hey, nice site!! Denny hope your still making cider- and pressing your own apples. Next we got to get you keeping bees so you can do the mead thing.
-
Virtually no apples this year, so no cider pressing...a bummer! My wife has considered bee keeping...even went to "Bee School"! But neither one of us has mustered up the ambition to actually do it so far.
-

Please do Denny! It's sad, I haven't seen a bee down here in SE Texas in literally years.
-
Anybody here ride bicycles? I rode about 3,300 miles so far this year. I took three small tours. In general I run almost all family errands on a bike and do ride year round. Gets a little chilly at times in the Wisconsin weather, but not too bad. And there are times when I won't ride.
I am thinking of heading to Montana next summer then riding back.
Anybody else ride?
-
I used to ride Mountain Bike 2 or 3 times a week. However, I had a serious wipe out and bent the forks (among other things) and never replaced it. I have an old Giant Touring bike that I have been thinking about getting road ready again. I run and hike regularly but would really like to add some biking back into my routine.
That said, I live way to far out to use my bike as any real form of transportation.

My wife and I just picked up a country place about 30 miles from our main home. It sits in the middle of great biking roads. In Wisconsin we are lucky to have had a dairy industry that needed good roads to the back country. So, I believe I will be able to run back and forth fairly often.
-
Plenty of country roads out here but have to get on hwy to get to town. Plus the Nascar dumb ass mentality scares me down here. Too many people think they are Dale Earnhart.
-

Yes, highways are no fun. My fear is people on cell phones. They look at you but really do not see you. I like to be home by oh, 3:00PM as that is when people begin leaving work and school. They are connecting with others and I would rather not be on the streets then.
-
When I lived in town, there were great bike paths along the riverbanks and I rode frequently. When I moved to the country about 15 years ago, we bought a place on a narrow road with no shoulders and fast moving RVs and log trucks. NO WAY am I riding out here!
-
I love logging trucks! One day if the economy recovers I hope to buy one and go to work. Don't worry Denny...........I wouldn't run over you!
-
Hey, man, you could stop by for a beer!
-

I know your road Denny. It is a bit scary. My job has taken me out there to take pictures of houses (r.e.appraiser) and when I am creeping along P.C. looking for an address it can be quite hazardous. However, I know there are many good logging roads and trails nearby that can be ridden with ease on the appropriate bike, though it's been a while since I've done that.
Stay safe out there, we need you here.

Have we met???
Yeah, I could load the bike into a vehicle and take it out to somewhere like Hall Road or Fern Ridge for a ride, but that just seems like a hassle. These days, I get my exercise on the treadmill while I watch Food Network! ;)

No I don't think we've met. I recognized the street name from the CBS club page.
I used to love hauling my bike out to Nelson Mtn. Road and riding aroud there. Lately the bike is gathering dust, but the brew equipment is nice and clean.
-
Howdy. Glad I could make it.
-
Geez, this is cool with everybody checking in here....kinda like meeting all your friends for a beer!
-
Howdy all...thanks for the invite Denny!!
Looks like a cool place, I'll have to check it out.
Dave
-
Glad ya made it, Dave! If you've got some pics from Brewers Union, post 'em and a little info in the Commercial Beer section!
-
This is like my high school reunion. It surely is good to see everybody again.
Biking- Yes, I do the MTB thing, and a bit of road biking when I am home. Since I am not, I am doing lots of planning for when I do get home. I just picked up Cosmic Ray's Fat Tire Tales and Trails, which is a good guide to Arizona MTB spots all over the state. My first trip will hopefully be the ride from Flagstaff to Sedona, which is 43 miles on fire roads, assisted most of the way by gravity. In one stretch, the trail descends 3000 feet in 6 miles. I can't wait.
Again, good to see you all again.
-
Howdy all. I'm sure none of you know me but if ya mention hops, you'll see my ugly penmanship ;)
-
Hi folks...Just joined myself. I mainly frequent the BN Forum, but since I'm a member of the AHA, I wanted to check out what is going on here. Looks like alot of great information. Just wanted to say hey!

Hey all...good looking forum here at the AHA website. I have rewed for over three years now (9 extract, 3 partial mashes and now...hmmm like 45 all grain batches). I am a regular also over at Beer Advocate, although I try and avoid the BS threads. I left Tasty Brew a while back and didn't like HB talk. So from peeking in and out of here a bit, this looks like a nice little second (or first) home to continue to improve my hobby, and maybe even give out some new ideas.
-
Howdy MN! Welcome to the party!
-
Ah. A fellow refugee. :)
Welcome.
-
I just noticed this thread, so I thought I'd introduce myself:
I've been brewing since 2005, having started with a Mr Beer. I use lots of different methods, now--partial mash, extract with grain, all grain--depending on the type of brew, but always have fun. I'm not much into technology (which is good cuz I'm poor) but very interested in methodology. I like brewing great beer with very basic equipment.
My favorite styles are pale ale, IPA, hoppy red ales, hefeweizen, and bitters.
During the day I'm a speech-language pathologist.
I might have a little good advice hidden around her somewhere, but I certainly have a ton to learn...always a beginner!
-
Hey, Mr. Monk!
In the immortal words of Jethro Gump (anybody been around long enough to remember him?)
"The more I know about beer, the more I know I need to learn more about beer!"

started with a Mr Beer.
Another one of us
welcome aboard

I feel like I've been missing out -- all my friends are here! You don't mind me dissing the unofficial rules of thumb of brewing here, do you? No really, I'll try to be a little bit polite.

Welcome Dave.

Hey, Dave, it's about time. Diss away, man. I'll join ya!
-
What took you so long, you are giving the NPHS grads a bad rap. Dammit that is my job!

Howdy, from Florida. I go by JJ, real name is John. Been brewing for about 6 years. Looks like a rough group. I should fit in just fine!
I am a severe hophead too!

Relized how many people have dissapered from NB so I thought I would come and visit. Thanks Denny for fixing my account. 8)

Welcome to the AHA Forum Rob!
Let us know what's brewing when you get a chance.

Hey all;
I'm one of the TT'ers who prefer the email list, though I have come here from time to time. Looking through this thread, I realize I have not said hello properly. ;)
I started brewing during the summer of 1974 with "Blue Ribbon" malt syrup from the A&P "baking needs" section. I used "Lena Pabst's" prohibition-era recipe for 5 gallons of beer, which was printed inside the label: (2) #3 cans of malt syrup (about 6# unhopped LME), 1# cane sugar, 2 packets bread yeast and enough water to make up 5-gallons....15 minute boil. My fermenter was a 6-gallon frosting bucket from Dunkin Donuts. Airlock, who knew a plastic bag over the whole thing wasn't good enough? My mom bought me a capper at a garage sale for 75 cents, which I still use (it was made in 1921 and I found one on Ebay recently for the same price, plus shipping ,-). I got a couple of cases of empties from the corner pub, where my dad and his buddies went; rinsed them out with Chlorox-water. Found cork-lined crown caps at Mr Miner's hardware store.
It was, in no uncertain terms, undrinkable and I buried a case (minus the 1 bottle). My brother said he'd keep the other and see if age would improve it. My mom found the second case (minus 1 bottle) in a corner cupboard in her basement a few years ago (it was 32 years old); it got a decent burial near the other case.
I got better; found books on brewing at the library (and bought my own). Discovered sanitation guidelines, dairy grade tubing, food grade tubs, glass water jugs...boiling. Got my first packet of dried brewer's yeast. Came across a supply of hops...found a mentor. Bought an airlock...
I added wine in early '75 (I do a really good 1-gallon winemaker class) and mead in mid '83 (wrote a book on Mead Making in early '99). I've been a certified judge in the SCA (medieval brewing, vinting and infusions/cordials) and (informally) for various home brew clubs.
After I married in 1982, I taught my wife how to brew, so the whole house is "infected". ;D
After all these years, I am (we are) still brewing with extract (dried) with some specialty grains. We like to quip that we've just hired someone else to do the mashing and sparging.
We rarely brew to style, preferring instead to brew to taste. My wife's favorite to brew is her English style IPA with Oats. For malt beverages, I really like my Irish style Dry Stout with Rye. I mostly brew melomels these days.
We do gain a lot from the all-grainers and techno-brewers, but it ain't our thing.
Take care - Steven

Steven - After a few times it becomes familiar here, and you can find what you want quickly. Welcome!

Welcome Steven. Man...that sure is some old school stuff. Make me realize how lucky we are today.

Welcome to The Great AHA Forum. Hope you find it to be your go to resource for your homebrewing needs.
Cheers!

welcome!

Howdy Steven! We look forward to your input. :)

Hello All,
I have really decided to jump in here after the untimely demise of Tech Talk. While it was a bit antiquated, I really enjoyed the information. I have to admit advice from Dave Houseman on a nearly daily basis didn't hurt either.
I've been brewing for about 5 years, and thanks to a podcast with Mufasa Ferguson on the Session I have been brewing all grain for the last 6 months.
I hope to share some good info and good times :)
-

Howdy!
And I wonder just how many people have decided to go all grain about Fergie went on his rant. :)
-
Hey, hammy! Good to have you here!
-
Welcome to all you TT menand women. I could never figure out TT so I never posted there.
-
Howdy!
And I wonder just how many people have decided to go all grain about Fergie went on his rant. :)
It was pretty funny, because the first time I listened to it I was like F that, I work my butt off just to make good beer with extract and steeping. The second time I went "He's right, suck it up and take control of your beer."
That said, first AG I learned a valuable lesson - DO NOT keep checking temperature and stirring your mash when using a cooler mash tun and single infusion batch sparge. My Dark Mild is much more like brown colored water with grain dust in it, but my second batch hung right at 154 where I wanted it after the initial mash in, and is pretty respectable.
Besides now I get to make a bunch of new equipment. My 3-roller monster mill (thank you wifey) should be up and running by weeks end.
-
Welcome to the AHA Forum Hammy!
I think you'll be able to get your brewing fix right here.

...I started brewing during the summer of 1974 with "Blue Ribbon" malt syrup from the A&P "baking needs" section. ...
Great that you jumped on board here Steven.
Always nice to see another old timer here (looks like we started around the same time more or less). ;D
cheers!

"Style guidelines" What's that?" :)
A brewer after my own heart. One of my favorites as a little tyke was Ballantine IPA.
When I started you basically had beer and ale, in the more elder senses of the words...in my area, Beer was what the big boys made, Ale was what the more local/regional brewers made (I grew up in western Massachusetts).
Beer was German. Ale was English. The Irish, well, they drank that funny black stuff.
French and Italians...vin ordinaire and vino rosso...
Russians...vodka...
And there you have much of my ethnic background ,-)
I look at "styles" and recipes as fluid guidelines to help me make something I like to drink.
And that for me is the heart of the hobby, not I having an "I Love Me" wall of ribbons and certificates. Hell, I didn't enter my 1st AHA competition until 2 or 3 years ago.
But, I see TT may get a reprieve, if we can come up with sounds ideas to keep it useful.
But, I'll likely be around here a little more, as I like to strike up conversations.
take care - Steven

Just wanted to say hi. Been brewing, AG, for several years and watching this and other sites for a while. Probably won't be posting a lot, because you guys seem to be doing okay without my advice. I like good beer. If it meets a particular style, then tell me so I can brag about it, otherwise just drink it and enjoy.

Welcome to the AHA Forum freddy2.
We can use all the help we can get. :D

HaHa! Someone like me? OMG!! I swear if I "try" to brew to a particular style I generally find something wrong with it and then I'm not happy with it... but if I just let go and brew, the results rarely let me down. Good beer is what it is! Welcome to the forum Freddy2! :)

Hello to all brewers in the wide wide world of homebrewing!!
My name is Sam, I've been a homebrewer for 4 years (2ish with the All Grain Lifestyle) and I enjoy the hell out of it. I'm also working in Boulder here at the American Homebrewers Association as an intern extraordinaire. I just graduated college and I am looking forward to one day making the best oktoberfest ever created (and hopefully selling it on the world market). I have enjoyed cruising the forum and I am gradually accruing some wonderful knowledge about homebrewing from the "wiser" forum goers. ;)
On another note, I would also like to promote another part of the forum- The Homebrewer Bio. This fun category (its located right in between the Zymurgy category and Homebrew Clubs category) is getting lonely without any new posts and would really benefit from some additional profiles. Yes yes, I know what you are thinking - isn't it a bit narcissistic to write an entire profile about yourself and your brewing set-up... No, its definitely not. We have a great community here on the forum and this section is a great way to get to know each other and learn more about who brews and why.
Oh,
I should also mention that you could be enshrined in homebrewing history! Every couple of weeks we at the AHA select a homebrewer to be featured as our homeBrewer Of The Week(s), and we make this delicate selection based on posts in the Homebrewer Bio category. You, yes you, could be featured on the front page of the AHA website and will exist in the BOTW archives and homebrewing history for all of eternity (or until we invent something better than the internet). So I encourage everyone to write a quick profile about yourself and post it to the Homebrewer Bio.

Ain't never stopped the Tubercle. Post on...

I suppose I ought to say howdy on this thread myself. Actually I've been around brewing and on other forums for years. Used to hang out on Homebrew Digest and rec.crafts.brewing where I got fired up by Denny and other wonderful folks. Any more I mostly hang on on the forum at www.thebrewingnetwork.com . Denny may be the post whore over here, but that would be me over there with somewhere around 4500 posts. ;) I hope I can contribute at least something to the hobby over here and hopefully learn some more stuff too.

Wayne, with you and Dixon here, it's kinda like the "old days" on rcb!
-
I was on alt.beer.home-brewing for years before I found r.c.b. Both of those used to be really awesome forums... about 10 years ago. I learned so much. Now they are so laden with spam it ain't funny.
-
I still check in on rcb every once in a while. The only person I still recognize is Joel. Maybe we should make an "old timers" run on it! It was an awesome resource and I learned a LOT from it!
-
I definitely learned a lot from those groups, but I don't remember which ones I was in. It would have been almost 20 years ago though, when I was starting brewing. I didn't realize they're still around.

Hi there. I'm a new member of AHA. I signed up at GABF. I'm so new that I have not gotten my card, yet ;)
Sort of just wanted to say "Howdy" and it looks like this is the thread in which to do it.
I've been brewing for about a year and 9 months when my sister got me a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. Been hooked ever since.
I will do my 55th batch this weekend ... it will be my 5th all-grain batch. Although I rarely use Mr. Beer ingredients, I still use the Mr. Beer fermenters, so those are all small batches. I need to upgrade sometime to something bigger. I just have not gotten around to it.
Anyway ... as I said, I just wanted to introduce myself a little bit. Not sure how active I'll be on the forum. I guess we'll see.
Cheers!

He's a Seattle guy. I'm going to try to meet him for a pint if this script will finish so I can start the next one . . .

Denny, I plug your AR coordinates in google maps and it comes up with Tennessee. I don;t think you moved ;)

I suspected they were screwed up! Guess I better revisit it, cause I don't wanna have to move! Although, since they represent position as referenced to Jeff, maybe plugging them directly into Google won't work unless you start by making him the center of the universe. which, of course, he is! ;)

Wait, that was Denny.

"plugging them directly into Google won't work unless you start by making him the center of the universe."
I'll get with Sergio and Larry first thing Monday 8)
Actually though, I think you may be right after all. I think I need to recalculate mine.... here's the deal from hbd:
Apparent Rennarian is expresed as a bearing and distance from Jeff
Renner's house. It is *Apparent* Rennarian because it's not possible
to know Jeff Renner's actual location at any given moment, so
we us his house instead him.
Here's the calculator for determining your AR:

Well, since I've been posting all weekend, I guess I should say hi. ;)
Hi!
Anyway, I learned to brew mead about 16 years ago. (Although I've been kinda lazy about that the last few years and need to restock now) I first tasted mead and homebrew at an event called "The Great Pennsic War" hosted by The Society for Creative Anachronism and was instantly hooked. I started my 1st batch of mead about 3 or 4 weeks later. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. Once I become suitably reemployed, I'd like to try my hand at a beer or 3, So I'll likely be pestering for advice about that in the not too distant future. BTW, if any of you are from anywhere Butler, PA and would like some apples or pears, drop me a line and I'll let you know when they're ripe. (2 bosc and 2 bartlett pear trees and 2 red and 2 gold delicious apple trees) What's left of the blueberries are mine though. ;) (Damn robins robbed me blind this year.)
-
Well I figure i should make an introductory post since I plan on spending more time around here. So I am Ian or Petey as i have been called for a few years now. I have been brewing for about 7 years now half extract the other all-grain. I get quite a bit of brewing in since i have quite a few friends that like the beers I make (beers of the British Isles) and will buy everything for me to make them (usually). Just starting to brew larger batches now and intend to start sending beers into competitions to get some feedback (other than that's good lets have it again) and start on my indoor electric brewery build after i move back to coastal NC in the spring.
-
Welcome Petey, enjoy your stay. Also welcome back to Gawd's country in the Cakalakeys.
I figure you have been lurking so you know what a great bunch of guys and gals hang out here.
Make any comment or ask any question you like. Someone, except me, will have the answer. ;D
Actually I'll have an answer but the next post will be someone correcting what I just said :'(
-
Welcome aboard petey! :)

Welcome Petey!
You're leaving OK after that lovely summer we just had? ::)

It isn't entirely by choice to move, but after that summer i am definitely not complaining.

Petey, welcome to the premier homebrew board on the web! Love the avatar. I have recently come down with incurable BRD... ;D
-
Guess I'll say howdy here too.
Been homebrewing for about 10 yrs since my sister in law gave me a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas in 2002.
My wife is still pissed at her for creating a monster.
I'm in three of the clubs that Tom Schmidlin (A-Z counts, too, Tom) and got into the BJCP too.
I usually hang out on the BN Forum where I'm a post whore there along with Bugeater and theDarkSide. I also have a few too many bazillion posts over on the Realbeer forum.
Looking forward to hanging here with you guys too.
Steve

Hellooo Steeve!

There. Fixed it.

I love that this threat is titled "Howdy everybody!".
First, I am a proud Texas A&M Aggie. On campus at A&M we said howdy. I say howdy a lot in my professional life and I always wonder if people think I am crazy.
Second, I am not so good with commas either. (The thread title is missing a comma.)

I go thru this old thread and wonder where everyone is now...

Hi Mark! Nice to meet you.

montana is a huge looking state on the map.
used to drink big hole brewing beers A LOT when they were distributed here in ontario.
