The most recent 1.120 Impy stout that I brewed in my fermentation chamber started at 62F and blew off over a gallon of krausen through the blow off hose. They can be extremely volatile fermentations. I wonder what temp he pitched at?

Been there, done that, cleaned up... It's always the Imp Stouts, never a lighter ale of same OG. Must be the dark grains...

My last Imperial Stout produced a gallon of krausen, but still remained in the fermenter.

That was funny! You don't forget these things. I remember coating a bathroom with my first hefe-weizen. Except I was awoken in the wee hours with the sound of the airlock geysering beer and yeast! That was without a starter BTW...
I think it is cool to document these things.

Reminds me of when I was a lttle kid my older brother made some root beer. Every once in a while a bottle would explode in the basement. When you opened one you'd end up with about 1/4 of the bottle left. Could have used them the 4th of July for fireworks.

I found that to be absolutely hysterical! Especially since my first batch, an IPA, overflowed a little, and the OG was only 1.072.
Seems you need to leave extra space for the high kreusen on certain beers!

In my house, we call that the MONEY SHOT! to bad he missed it. The stuff of legend!
