Title: could be my last post...
Post by: weithman5 on July 03, 2012, 07:32:43 PM
Stop cheering.  I have been putting up new vinyl siding.  i have a difficult spot to reach.  i have built the temporary scaffolding below and anchored it to the house.  i need to get to a second story soffit and then the freeze boards, fascia going up the roof line.  Tomorrow morning after rounds, and after i make sure my disability is current, I will put in the screw eyes for a safety harness, then proceed.  But if i am not back to finish this thread, well, drink one for me.

This is why you pay somebody to do it for you. ;D  They take all of the liability and risks.  Good Luck, be safe!

Don...Don... Are you there Don?
Someone call 911!  Have the drive around Illinois until they find someone who should have known better.
I'm good at some stuff, heights are not one of them so good luck.

It looks like you did the prep work.  You'll be fine.   :)

Make to post a picture of the finished project.

I bet if everyone on this forum gave Don $1 he could get a "real" ladder. The one in the pic is just plain scary.

Just don't get too absorbed in the project that you forget what you're standing on. It's easy to do after a while.

You picked one hell of a day to go up there. It's already 90 degrees out at 8:30 in the morning. Should hit 100 before lunch. Bring some water. Stay safe.

Terrifying. Looks like an expensive trip to the ER and beyond to me. :(

Isn't he a doctor?  So, then he'd get a members discount or he could do any minor surgery (like a hammersphincterectomy) at home with a mirror and a couple homebrew.  I think he's got this covered.

Better you than me pal!  I leave roof climbing to the roof climbers.  Be safe.  Good luck!

I have come to a point in my life where my physical welfare is worth more than the savings.  I'll pay someone else to do it.

survived.
this morning i went to attach the screw eyes for the safety harness and realized i didn't like how narrow.  more than strong enough.  i widened it about another two feet.  i took plenty of breaks during the miserable heat.  i have the corner above the overhang built and the fascia extended to within a few feet of the peak.  i will move the scaffold out of the way tomorrow after work and then run the siding.  when it gets high enough i will replace the scaffold, but the overhang part is  finished, then finish the last fascia.

realized i never updated this.  the first pic is after completing that wall. beer courtesy of nateo's pils study (actually was already finished)

next pic is the back and side of house with finished siding.  still in clean up, loose end stage

third pic is of fluffy.  i caught him in 1975, has been decorating one son or another's house at college for about 4 years now.

I think the hand in Fluffy's mouth needs to be holding a beer.
