Title: I want to toast to Euge's father
Post by: boulderbrewer on August 01, 2012, 05:34:50 AM
One of my best friend's Euge lost his father just recently. I want to raise a toast to the man that gave us Euge. You may or may not have been the best in life but you gave your best when you made your son and one of my best friends. For this I salute you!  SALUTE'!

Euge, I did not know this happened.  I am sorry for your loss.

I did not know the man, but I imagine he was a man of honor and mistakes like my own father was.  Euge, I am saddened by the loss you had, and raise a toast high to the memories of what once was.

There are always good times to remember.

Thanks guys. Eugene was a WW2 vet- a marine in the Pacific theater. A mechanical and petroleum engineer. A product of the Great Depression. A loving husband and father. Absolutely my inspiration and hero.

Gave him a beautiful funeral yesterday surrounded by friends and family. So now we are on the way to Izard county, Arkansas to plant him in the family plot.

God bless.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.  We'll keep him (and his family) in our prayers.

It may sound odd but enjoy your time with family you don't see often.  Good visits come out of sad events.

Sorry for you, euge.
(My dad was also a WWII era over-achiever, died of lung cancer 22 years ago.  I still wish I could ask for his advice sometimes.  My wife and I are now fresh out of parents.)

Prayers and good thoughts your way. I know the type -- my dad was a merchant marine in WWII. Sorry for your loss, may the memories stay bright!

Thanks again folks for your kind comments.

We buried him this morning before the heat became too oppressive. It was out in boonies at a family cemetery. We brought four shovels with us and filled in the grave ourselves. The pastor got a bit teary and choked up at this gesture and said he have never seen anyone do this before. We just couldn't stand the thought of a back-hoe dumping dirt on him. Figured we'd do it instead.

Have a bunch of cousins around and their support has been invaluable and greatly appreciated.

Haven't been able to properly toast him myself yet. Will do so at the first opportunity.
