Title: Home brew club education
Post by: tcanova on September 12, 2012, 05:48:29 PM
Hey all I'm looking for some ideas for topics for education for my home brew club.  We are about 30 strong and have a fair mix of all grain and extract brewers.  I have done some talks in past about efficiency and have done some tastings with tainted beers to emulate off flavors.

Looking for some suggestions for a 10 minute presentation.

Thanks!

Do a SMaSH beer each session.

I like that idea!  I was thinking of doing some "teas" of steeped specialty grains to see what flavors they would add.

our club has been doing something similar. We have several club members brew the same recipe but with different hops, just one hop per brew and do a blind tasting to see what each hop brings to the party. It's tricky when you are comparing high alpha hops to low alpha and I wouldn't recommend more than 6 per meeting otherwise you get pallet fatigue, or at least I do.
