Title: Petsmart now offering 3 Guinea Pigs for the Price of ONE!
Post by: majorvices on February 24, 2010, 07:54:06 PM
Well, for us anyway. We got my youngest son Max a Guinea Pig for Christmas. He named it Henry. This morning he says "Hey, Henry had babies!" My wife thought mice had gotten in the cage somehow over night. lol!

So, we are changing her name to Henrietta now. What a crazy coincidence. The really weird thing was a couple of weeks ago out of noweher I started calling the Pig a "she" to which my youngest had to constantly correct me.

I was wondering why that thing got so fat! Pics to come.

Ha!  That happened to us when my daughter was a youngster.  I think at one point we had eight of them.  They were pretty easy to give away though.

OK, here's the best part. We posted a Q on a Guinea Pig forum about what to do and are getting fussed at for buying our Pig at a pet store and for not being aware of proper care. I wanted to tell them I made a yeast starter and read How to Brew, but I didn't think they'd get it.  :P

They need to be a little bigger - they won't fill the crock pot quite yet. (Hope Cap doesn't see that!) ;D

We bought two "female" gerbils when I was a kid. A couple months later, seven babies. So then we had to start separating the males and females, and Papa Gerbil didn't get along with the kids, so we had to have three cages... my parents were thrilled.

What ever you do dont do them in the crock pot. Do them on an open fire with a stick, like marshmallows.

...either that or live directly into the microwave.

Yeah, well now you know how all the new guys feel when you cuss them out right from the start for fermenting to warm, and not making a starter. Serves you right!!  ;D

Do Guinea pigs go in the boil, or do you have to MASH them first?

If you keep 'em alive, won't they create lots of "pellets" you can use?

You know those pigs will multiply quickly...that's if you have a male. If you have two males you'll have to separate them.

Where else do you buy Guinea Pigs?  I understand that there are plenty of cats and dogs that need to be adopted from shelters, but I doubt too many people see a Guinea Pig walking down the street and drop it off at the local animal control...

Maybe from the Guinea Pig Adoption Network (http://www.gpan.net/)? :o

Things you would eat if you didnt know what they were..................

My BIL was eating squid once with us because he thought they were spicy onion rings

He stopped eating when I dipped the head and tentacles in the sauce...........

I bet Guinea pigs taste justs like chicken thighs

Feed them LOTS of hops! ;D

Man, they really are pretty cute little piggies.
Do they have good personalities?

In the Huancayo region, the cuy is preferred fried with a sauce of pepper and achiote. In Arequipa, it is prepared baked as cuy chaktado and in Cuzco, it is baked whole, as a small suckiling pig, with a hot pepper in its mouth.

I have to admit that sounds rather delicious!  I've always maintained that the delicious "cho cho beef" at a local Chinese place were more likely marinated deboned squirrel filets on skewers.  At least now I know something to try aside from ceviche and pisco should I ever get down Peru-way!

Yeah, they are pretty darn cute. They run around following mama oiking constantly (guinea pigs do oink!) I am going to take some pics with my son holding them tonight. They are too small to eat ... mama on the other hand.  ::)
