Hey homebrewers!
What kind of music inspires you to make a funky/tasty/interesting/delicious homebrew?
-
On my brew days I typically listen to Public Radio news shows. Boring I know but it gives me the opportunity to find out what's going on in the world and get beer made at the same time.
Paul
-
I listen to brewing podcasts, Brewing Network, Beersmith, some local podcasts like Seacoast Beverage Lab, etc.
I may have the TV on somedays depending on what's on, like sports or watching the Beerfest dvd...DASSSSSS BBBBOOOOOOOTTTTT!!!
-
i have a big mix playlist that continues to grow each brew day.
-
My brew partner makes us listen to 70s pop/rock. Usually something between Fleetwood Mac and Hall and Oates.

+1 but I always end out listening to some sort of jazz.
-
I listen to Pandora, usually set to singer/songwriter station and play along with my uke or guitar once everything is set during the mash, sparge and boil.

Same here. I've spent most of my life playing and writing music. Unfortunately, at this point when I listen to music is just reminds me of work....
-
Just what's in my head ;)
-
Depends on how I feel/what I am brewing:
For IPAs and big aggressive beers:
Pantera, Pre-Black album Metallica, Alice In Chains, AC/DC, Danzig, etc.
If I am feeling more laid back and enjoying the process:
Jack Johnson, O.A.R, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, acoustic albums, Bob Marley
-
Reggae
-
I don't watch a heck of a lot of TV, so brewdays are frequently multitasking between brewing and cleaning out my DVR of stuff the wife won't watch with with me.
If I am listening to tunes, it's generally the less aggressive side of what I listen to. Either upbeat stoner rock (Fu Manchu, Kyuss, Clutch, etc.), southern sludge (Down, COC, BLS), or stuff like Witchcraft or the latest Opeth album. Basically bands from the last decade or two that sound like throwbacks to 70's hard rock.
-
All I listen too is the sound of my burners. Actually they are so loud there's not much point in trying to listen to music.
-
Classic Rock....Pink Floyd, Led Zep, The Beatles, The Who......My classic rock has no boundaries...Pearl Jam, Metallica, Buddy Holly....It's all great!

Time to upgrade to a blichmann! ;D
-
I'm still brewing in my kitchen and my house has an open concept, so I've got the TV on most of the time. However, with a 3-year-old daughter, that usually means that Dora, Bubble Guppies (they've got some catchy tunes!), Octonauts, and Doc McStuffins is on.
-

You can DVR porn?
For me, podcasts. Sometimes Brewing Network although they usually just make me angry. Often Neil deGrasse Tyson's StarTalk Radio or maybe an Adam Carolla podcast. Not usually music.
-

I'm a huge NPR fan, so it's often that these days. But when I'm in the mood for music, I'm right there with you on the old fart stuff...marathons of Procol Harum's 13 albums, , Steely Dan, the Fabs, and the first three or four Jethro Tull albums.
To mix things up though, sometimes I'll tune into Princeton University's FM station for an eclectic taste of more contemporary fare. I've discovered some great new stuff there.
-
pandora channels: stoner doom metal, the velvet underground or bob dylan. and if its sunday 91.7 koop jamaican gold. believe it or not im not a stoner.
-
Contemporary jazz, or classic rock. I can't listen to books or podcasts while focusing on getting my brewday right
-
Irish Drinking Songs by The Clancy Brothers

NPR if its a Saturday morning. Umphrey's McGee, Primus or Led Zepplin. Brewing podcasts ate definitely too distracting on brew day. Sometimes a college game in the background.

There's many a man may want a bride... Maloney wants a drink!
Classic, love that album!

Rock-a-Billy Roadhouse, Tues. afternoons on PRB is great.
-
Tom Waits puts me in the mood to brew
-
Another vote for NPR, although (don't be too harsh...) since I usually brew in the kitchen, where we have a small TV, I sometimes watch a Lifetime or Hallmark movie... the weepier the better.
-
Pandora radio, usually the Bob Marley station
-
phish, frank zappa, miles davis, loungy house music.....much of it depends on my mood. i'll often name the beers after the music i listen to while brewing.
-
It kind of depends but it is usually one of the two....
1. NPR
2. Roots Reggae (Bob Marley, Burning Spear, etc.)/New Roots Reggae (John Brown's Body, SOJA, etc.)
I like to keep it mellow when brewing. If I start listening to Norwegian Death Metal, then I get too worked up/drinking too much, and start missing stuff. ha.
-
Anything Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, or classic blues.
-
Rock and Roll ! ! ! 8)

My ipod on shuffle is the way to go.

I can get behind this. I think I could spend an entire brew day with YYZ and La Villa Strangiato on endless loop.
-
I keep the bluegrass going strong. Love that stuff, fast or slow!

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. I don't generally listen to music but, when I do, it's either Rush or Dream Theater (Mike Portnoy era, of course)
-
Pandora on someone's station like Guy Clark, Levon Helm, Merle Haggard, Hank III, or Americana Radio. NPR was up there, too, back when Click and Clack were on, followed by Michael Feldman's "what do you know"...for rock it's hard to beat Bob Dylan radio on Pandora.
I guess I am showing my age.
-
It varies a lot, but most often it's the local classic rock radio station - the more Led Zeppelin, the better. I also sometimes tune-in to a ball game during football or baseball season.
-
AC/DC, Judas Priest, Def Leppord, Sammy Hagar, Pat Benetar, and Tom Petty.........
(can you tell what era I grew up in, LOL)
-
I usually listen to podcasts or folk, rock, or country. Better yet, I just rigged up my home sound system so if I'm brewing on my patio or in my garage, I can change the song right from my phone! Ah technology.
-
radioparadise.com (http://radioparadise.com) You never know what's coming, but so many times I've just stopped what I was doing to listen.

The senior brewer makes us listen to Tom Petty, when up to me it is Jackson Browne and Annie Lennox.

Hopefully I don't need to be brewing a Miller Chill to listen to Limelight while brewing. If so, I may just stick to Fly By Night so I can brew a Lunar Ale clone.

It's all about Metal man! 8)
Sometimes on saturdays we listen to car talk on npr tho. ;D

Test for Echo '97, Vapor Trails '02(I think), 30th Anniversary '04, Snakes and Arrows '07, Time Machine Tour '10(I think), Clockwork Angels '12....Unfortunately, I won't catch them on their extended tour this summer :( Neil's drum solo is always worth the price of admission.

Like beer, music is all situational for me, often seasonal.
Spring and Summer- IPA, kolsch, wheat beers, saisons, various fruit beers. Music: electronic, jazz, groove, reggae, latin
Fall and Winter- Brown ales, porters and stouts, barleywines and generally darker, full-bodied beers. Music: metal, classical, NPR news, more jazz
-
Today I brewed an American lager to hank Williams Sr, and brewing a bohemian lager now to queen. Music is as important to the spirit of the brew as any other ingredient.

Anything Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, or classic blues.
Usually its the sound of another beer getting poured into my glass. But, I'm with gym rat, love the blues.

The brutal-ist of metals, the crunchiest of hippy tunes....and fleetwood mac.
