Title: Does this look like a pellicle?
Post by: edvinjonsson on June 13, 2013, 08:34:50 PM
Looks kinda weird to me, but I'm not sure. Its the 5th day of fermentation.

What yeast is it?  Some top-cropping yeasts look kind of funky like that.  5 days is pretty early for a pellicle to form.

I would say that does not look like a pellicle to me

Looks like krauesen (foamy yeast) to me. Pellicle wouldn't form within five days. Nothing to worry about.

Agreed.  Just looks like normal yeasty krausen to me.

Nope. Just healthy yeast.

Thanks. I usually ferment in buckets so I can't see the krausen, but I had a phenolic infection from a scratched bucket last month and I've been a little paranoid since then. I guess I freaked out because of those big kinda-white bubbles. Good to know it looks normal.
