Tivo is already set for the Patriots "game" on Sunday.

Even with all their rookies, the Patriots have a good shot of winning the Superbowl this year, thanks to people like Vince Wilfork, Tom Brady, and the best coach that every lived...Bill Belichick ( There...that should draw Tom Schmidlin back into the forum :) ).

Where the heck has he been?...Hope everything is alright!

WOO HOO!  My favorite time of the year!!

Here in Hawaii the early games come on at 7:00AM and the late games 10:00AM  The night games are at 2:30 in the afternoon.  So it's Hawaiian coffee and papayas, mangos, pineapples, macnuts... for the games here.

I didn't think I'd like this at first, but this is my 10th season of watching football this way.  It is great.  The games are all over early enough to leave my afternoons free to go get in the ocean for a couple of hours.

And for all you girly-men who don't like football - you are excused from the thread.  You can go watch ice skating or Project Runway or whatever...   :-*

Best time of year !  Hoping to see the Colts go ~ 11-5, win the AFC South and win a playoff game.  Gotta have goals !  Realistically, a wild card would work just fine this year.

But I was raised on orange crush, and so I cannot help it.

Lets get it done.  8)  Enjoy.

My only hope for this year's NFL season is that the Eagles don't totally embarrass themselves.  They have so many talented players but can't seem to pull it together.  The only reason I even care is my nephew is their main kicker and it would be cool for him if they had a respectable season for once.

What a weird game.  Manning looked really good, which will further irritate their fans when they don't win the superbowl again.

I will say that the corpse of Dallas Clark isn't going to cut it, especially with Jacoby Jones out.

My one wish for the Eagles came true.  They got a new head coach this season.  Now, if they could just get a decent starting QB (that doesn't abuse dogs), I might be able to root for them again!

This is what I'm hoping for. I have Manning on my fantasy team so I hope he goes on a tear all season, then Brady smokes him in the playoffs again.

That was an enjoyable season opener!  It's good to see Wes Welker in a Broncos uniform.  I liked him as a Dolphin, and hated him as a Patriot.

Pretty cool that Denver's place kicker Matt Prater played at Central Florida (my alma mater).

Did anyone else see the Denver cheerleader twerk for the camera, or was I just hallucinating?  Al and Chris were talking, then got quiet when it happened, then kinda continued on talking, a bit awkwardly.

No kidding.  These first two games for the Pats were supposed to be an extension of preseason, but Buffalo gave them a game.  And the ouch moment when Amendola was grabbing his groin and limping off the field made me hurt.  Thankfully someone rubbed it for him  :o at halftime and he got back out there for the 2nd half!

First time in 10 years the Dolphins have won their first two of the season.  We go into the third week still with hope for a good season...  I don't know how to act!

Class of '12 - Luck #1 pick vs Tannehill #8 pick.  Tannehill wins this one.

Methinks this is a rivalry we will be watching for the next decade, or so.

Oh yeah, and just for you Major...

Seriously, the Jags are stoopid for not signing Tebow. Sure, he's a terrible NFL QB but he is fun to watch, and can win games - neither of which can be said about Jacksonville.

+1.  They are stupid.  Jacksonville has an attendance of about 30 people for their home games, and Tebow is a hero down there. Doesn't matter if he can play QB or not (and he can't) but it would've been a good business decision. There's a reason some teams can't get out of their own way.

Colts are avoiding the trap game after beating the Niners badly by pummeling Jacksonville. The Jags front office blows me away.  You cannot tell me that Tim Tebow, local hero, couldn't generate more points, excitement and attendance,ie., $$$ than this clown. Moe, Curly, or Larry could run a football team more skillfully.

All I can say is..."GO SAINTS!"  :P

Losing Wilfork (most likely for the season) is a big blow.  And Talib is doing his best to make sure he isn't a Patriot next year, because you know they aren't going to pay what he'll be asking for in his next contract.

That was yesterday.  An amusing pastime.  Who cares about that today?
Tonight (this afternoon here in Hawaii) my second favorite team hosts my favorite team.  A bit more of a test than the first three weeks...

Hands down all I have to say, "GO DOLPHINS!"

Tough night to be a Dolphan (so what's new?). Not that the Dolphins are that bad.  The Saints are that good.

If after 4 weeks of watching games this season I had two pick two teams that will be playing the first Sunday in February, I would say, hands down, it will be the Broncos and the Saints.  But, that is a long time from now;  "On any given Sunday..." that prolate spheroid takes many a funny bounce.

You'll see on 10/13/13,  Darkside.  GO SAINTS!  :-*

If Miami doesn't fix their offensive line, Tannehill will never make it to the end of the season.  Also, if Brady gets a TD pass against Cinninnati on Sunday, he'll have a chance to tie Drew Brees' record for games with consecutive TD passes when NO is in Da House!

I would also assume Gronkowski would be back for the Saints game if he isn't back this Sunday.

I'll be at the Saints game...should be fun!

As a Jets fan I have no love for the fish but it would be foolish to ignore that they are a team on a tremendous upswing. They have put in a lot of work over the past few years to become a competitive team. They will likely be the #2 team in the AFCE and a serious wildcard competitor, if not even a serious competitor to take the AFCE.

The whole NFC looks pretty bad right now. I'd place my bet on the Seahawks showing up for the NFC but expect to see the Saints go far this year as well.

Agreed. I was expecting the Falcons to give the Pats their first real challenge, but they didn't look all that great. The whole NFC has only 4 teams over .500, and one of them is the Lions. That pretty much says it all right there.

It's Romo's specialty. Do well for a while and then choke in the end. The Cowboys need a relief QB for Romo who can play the last 5-10 minutes of the forth quarter.

Wow, that's quite a run.  Good luck in your playoffs.  I went 12-2 one year and lost in the first round of the freakn' playoffs!  Last year I went 7-5, barely squeezed into the playoffs and won the championship!

This year our standings are crazy tight w/ 5 teams in 1st at 6-5, 4 teams at 5-6 and one at 3-8!

I don't think it was PI.  Sure, when you show the view cropped the way you have it looks bad and clearly there is contact with the receiver.  However, since the ball was intercepted at roughly the same time and even if there had not been contact it would have been intercepted, the ball was uncatchable by the receiver, thus no PI.  They definitely should have explained it though.

I still disagree . . .
Quote
It means, "He clearly wouldn't have had the opportunity to catch the ball from where he was standing when the contact occurred." (see the first bullet point above)

You can't watch that play and say Gronkowski couldn't have ran back to the ball if Kuechly didn't grab him. Kuechly clearly restricted his opponent's opportunity to make the catch, and thus a penalty should be called.
This is nonsense - Gronk could not have caught the ball because Lester was in the way.

Also, Brady should be fined for cursing at the officials.

And funny you should mention cheating and the Pats in the same sentence . . . ;)
Title: Re: Let the Games Begin!

Every week someone somewhere gets "cheated" out of a win.  I've watched the Dolphins be on the receiving end of some really bad calls that cost them the game.  But, at the snap of the ball on the next play that call is history and cannot be changed.  All that really matters is the notch in the Win or Loss column.

Suck it up and get on with it (it's only a game).  Whining is for babies.

Who the f##k is whining?  I even said Carolina played a good game.  Steven Smith handed it to Talib all night (until they took him out).  Bad calls cost teams games, yes...but the call was made by the only referee who had a clear shot of it.

Brady will probably be fined or may get a pass when the NFL realized the refs totally screwed up.

As far as the tuck rule, the call was made exactly as the rule was written.  The Pats actually were on the other end of that rule the following season.  Then the rules committee got rid of it, as they should have.

I've already moved on to next week.  Carolina seems legit...let's see if they can sustain the rest of the year.

I love Punatic's picture of how he feels at the end of every season by the way! :P

The 1972 Dolphins get all of the credit in the world, and deservedly so.  In my book the 2007 Pats lost their first game of the season against the Jets by cheating.  I'm glad they officially lost in the end to deny them a tainted perfect season.

Pats championships in the 5 years before they were caught cheating - 3
Pats championships in the 5 years after they were caught cheating - 0

I don't think I can see anyone beating Denver in the AFC playoffs, but I thought that last year too.  Seattle is head and shoulders above everyone and I just can't see anyone scoring 38 on them.  The one team I'm keeping an eye out on is Carolina.  They've got some tough games coming down the stretch, so we'll see if they are for real.

I don't think the Saints can win in Seattle. And if they don't the first time, it will be harder the second.

Loud, cold, and wet. Not a great recipe for a precision passing offense. Especially against the Legion of Boom.

My team hasn't been relevant in 40 years, so I gotta be a hater.

No need to be a hater, the lightning bolts aren't really all that bad.  Except last Sunday...   ;D

You're right, as a fins fan you know about decades of being irrelevant. And the bolts did win the greatest game ever ;D

Did the bolts get a Super Bowl ring for that game?  Oh wait.  The bolts have not won any Super Bowl rings. That would make them irrelevant since at least 1967, no?

But,isn't the greatest NFL game ever played considered to be the NFL Championship game in 1958?  The bolts won that game?  I thought the Colts beat the Giants 23-17 in overtime in that one.

Colts - Bolts. Kinda the same.  I guess you look for relevancy wherever you can find it.  8)

You gotta lay off the puna butter.  It's good to see you are still bitter about a game in way back in 1981 though :o

;D  The Colts have been to 2 Super Bowls in 6 or 7 years, won one, won a slew of divisions, and played consistently good football. Should they maybe have won more than one Super Bowl ? Yep. But searching for "relevancy" has been a fairly easy search.    ;)

Nope.  They legitimately sucked. Bill Polian had stopped drafting young players who could play (or sign free agents who still could either). Peyton got hurt and we had Curtis Painter out there, who couldn't play QB in a NERF league . Wheels fell off.

1981?  Was that the year the bolts went undefeated, or won the Super Bowl?  Oh wait... that's right.  There musta been some kind of a blown call, and the Dolphins got cheated!   ;D

Not bitter.  Just bored with the "bad call" whiners.  I mean, people (Raiders fans) are still whining about the Immaculate Reception really being an incomplete pass.  That was in 1972.

1972... hmmm, there's something about that year...

Except the only whining here has been you, whining about "phantom whining".
So you must be really sick of this:  The dollphins played the 2nd easiest schedule of a super bowl winner in the 40 plus year history, best team they faced was 8-6, 14-0 was certainly no coincidence. They are no where near one of the best teams ever. They had a special season they were not a special team. It was 41 years ago, let it go.   :(

Of course I don't believe all of that, nor am I a chargers fan, cmon san diego gets blacked out all the time, there are no charger fans. I grew up a niner fan on Oahu.  Since you like to beat the super bowl thing to death, you should know that.

Hah!  A bolts denier, and a fair-weather SF fan.  The last time SF won a Super Bowl was over 18 years ago, but it was against the bolts, so you can pick up one of those rings on eBay, cheap.  ::)

Can't really blame you though.  If I lived in San Diego I would pay to make sure the games are blacked-out, and take up badminton.  ;D

I grew up a niner fan on Oahu.  Since you like to beat the super bowl thing to death, you should know that.

What the heck does that mean?  I do know that Oahu is the sacrificial anode of the Hawaiian Islands. There are more Oakland fans and Seattle fans than SF fans over there these days. Everybody that had SF jerseys all traded them in for Ravens jerseys back in February.

I think there is one bolts fan over there too, but it may just be that he got his jersey at the Salvation Army store.   :-*

Welker showed up, dropped a few, and had a role in the final turnover.

Maybe we will get a rematch.

I'm wondering if Welker was really ready to play.  Of course they ran it like a 1000 times, and picked up some good yardage (especially since the Pats are missing the whole middle due to injury), but he didn't really seem to be a factor (except for that punt return  ;D )

I can't imagine a Welker mistake having an impact that would decide the outcome of the game  ::)

True.  I was a little grumpy at the Gronks continual push offs not being called, but in general I like the idea of letting them play.  I think Gene Steratore is excellent.  Plus, I like his explanations.  Better that Collinsworth.

Saints and Broncos - could go either way.

Peyton...new jersey...mid winter...no. I have a hard time seeing him win at home even come early jan.

After last night, nobody is geared to beat Seattle in Seattle throughout the playoffs...and nobody is better suited for the outdoors then the Seahawks come Super Bowl time.

Seattle over New England. Nfl creates new rule for patriots after the loss, corner backs are no longer allowed to blitz after Sherman scares Brady into a fetal position off a cornerback blitz, no contact made. Giselle makes comment saying that Tom can't throw and block corners at the same time.

Maybe they were making up for the BS quick whistle on Ninkovich's stripped ball.  I agree it was a bad call...the only less questionable part would have been the grab around the 6 yard that slowed Boyce down just enough to miss the ball.  That extra half step probably would have given him the catch.  But then it should have been on the 6 yard line, not the 1.  And since that was 2nd down, they still would have had a couple chances to get in the end zone.

But it's a win and I'll take it after losing 2 game to bulls*** calls (Jets and Carolina).

As soon as I saw the hit on Gronk, I knew he was out.  And with Dobson out, who knows what will happen.  I wouldn't be betting money on them to win the Superbowl this year, especially with their tendancy to not score in the 1st half.  Some games they are just not going to mount a comeback.  Of course until they are out, I still hold out hope!

Even more classic was Brady's completion to Michael Thomas  (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/15/tom-brady-cursing-interception-dolphins_n_4450315.html)in the end zone on 4th and 5 with 7 seconds left.

Until Jerry hires a GM, the Cowboys will be mediocre at best.  Romo is a big reason why they are any good at all, but he makes mistakes at the worst times.  I believe they had a run call on that last INT, but Romo checked out and audibled to the pass.  So I guess you can say Romo was just being Romo.

The reason they aren't any good is their defense and coaching, not Romo.  When you can't force the other team to punt it is hard to win games.  Romo gets all the criticism because he is the QB, but you shouldn't be losing games when you score 48 or 36 points or are up by 23 points at half.  Good job by the coach to throw the QB under the bus in the post game presser, BTW.  And this is coming someone who is not a Cowboys fan.  That and Billy C. stinks as an offensive coordinator.  Saw that dumpster fire here in Nebraska for 5 years.

Everyone likes to hit the little guy on the field.  I hope there wasn't a penalty on the play since he is coming straight at him.

I'm not one to harp on blown calls, but the Lions lost that game last night due to very bad officiating by one back judge.  So much so, it almost seemed purposeful.

The Lions played well last night.

Not just a broken jaw, but fractured a vertebrae as well!?  Double ouch!

Now they are saying illegal hit because the kicker is considered to be a defenseless player. ???
Maybe they should not let kickers tackle since they are defenseless.

What did the zebras have to do with all the picks Stafford slung?   ::)

The Lions are a weird team for sure;  soooo much talent but wow are they undisciplined.  I think it starts with that punkass coach.

I saw one go against the ravens, but there were several blown calls that went against the lions, I thought it was very one-sided.  That one non-call at the end was terrible.  If I was a lions fan I'd be pissed, but the league won't do anything about it.

Yeah, Stafford threw some picks and Calvin Johnson dropped some easy passes.  Lions should have won.  But they didn't.

If their reasoning is it is an illegal hit because he is the punter, I've got to call BS.  If he's going to try to tackle then he's got to be fair game to get smacked.

If they want to call it illegal because he hit him high that's fine.

It's like the QB after an interception - if you want to protect him, he needs to keep himself out of the play.  If he wants to get involved, he should be fair game.

I don't like using the refs as an excuse. The Lions should have won that game in spite of the refs. They had their opportunities and didn't take advantage.

On that note, I've never seen such blatantly obvious calls go uncalled like they did that night. There were 2 or 3 major calls that went against the Lions that were wrong. Only the Lions find a way to lose like that. I'm starting to believe in the curse.

There are a lot of little things in each game that contribute to the outcome, so I agree the lions should have won despite the bad calls.  But the refs should not have an uneven impact on the game, and I think it is worthwhile to point it out when they mess stuff up.  It doesn't change the past, but it might affect the future.

No kidding.  Did they change a rule recently?  I remember watching games where there was an interception and guys would go right after the quarterback, even though he was no where near the play.

This kicker definitely would have made an impact on this play if not blocked ( and probably would have been just as hurt).

The Dolphins had nothing.  I turned it off after Matt Moore threw it to the wrong guy.

Somehow (with help from the Patriots [did I say that out loud?!]) the Dolphins still have a little bit of hope to play on beyond next Sunday.

I get why people hate Cutler.  What a sourpuss.
Personally, I think he is tough as nails, and has amazing physical skills.
If he ever gets a good O line and does not have to run for his life all the time he could be great.  Could be.  Buuut..been waiting on that for years.

Seems like I remember Elway taking forfreakingever to develop as well.  Always scrambling, throwing the ball up for picks, gun slinging.  But he had that winning smile... ;)  Hee haw.

F*&#ing craziness !!!   Over 1000 total yards of offense between the Colts and KC. Looked like a real life Madden game. Luck turned the ball over 3 times, and redeemed himself (as usual) by scoring 4. Great game !

Oh yeah.  The second season hasn't even started for me...I have to wait for Saturday night for that!
Now to plan the menu...nachos, scallops wrapped in bacon, chicken fingers, and lots of homebrew!

Saturday night it is !  I make no bold claims.  It's been a crazy year for both teams in terms of injuries. The Colts could get trampled, mount another big comeback and fall short, or win .  What a crazy season !

I like Alabama football because my wife is an alumn, but I am not really a fan (don't wear crimson ever and don't really know how to respond to "roll tide") so the loss in the Sugar Bowl doesn't really do it for me. I'm routing for Auburn tonight. But either way I really don't care much.

Now when the Titans lost their last playoff game to the f#ch!ng Ravens few years back. That upset me for a few weeks. ;)

Did anyone notice the camera shots this weekend of players on the field during timeouts?  I mean...in your face with the freaking camera...on the field...during the game. I don't think I have ever seen that.

Bwahaha! I did a LOL!

Looks like a pretty good game last night. I checked the score in the middle of the might* but was only a little surprised. FSU scored 21 points in the 4th quarter. Holy crap, Auburn must have gotten wore out.

Definitely not counting them chickens...it's just nice to be interested in the teams playing past December.  Denver is going to be a tough opponent.  If the Pats can keep their running game going and Peyton can do his usually choke in the big game act, they have a chance.  If he's on and makes no mistakes, it will be a tough game to win.

What a great freaking game though.  Denver better bring a helluva game to beat either team.  My only concern with Denver is that they remind me of some of the Colts teams with Peyton - loaded with weapons on offense, fun to watch, but thin (partially due to injuries) on defense. Both the Niners and Seahawks are balanced, tough teams.

That was huge. I was howling thinking of all yous New Englanders digesting THAT.
What a little beoch.   ;D

Way to keep it classy, Richard Sherman.  Congrats.      :o

Wow. I saw that live, and I was stunned.
I think a good deal of the country might have instantly turned into Seahawks fans...until they saw Richard Sherman.
What an idiot.  I freaking hate all that gangster crap.

Colorado vs Washington: it's the Stoner Bowl!  Doritos has their target audience right where they want 'em!

Should be a good game at The MetLife stadium in New Jersey. Two great teams that earned their titles this year. I still think Manning is one of the best QB's to ever play the game. Looking forward to this one for sure! :)

I've been getting bombarded with promotions to win tickets to the Super Bowl.

Are you kidding me?  Sitting outdoors for 5 hours, in New Jersey, in February, isn't a prize.  It's cruel and unusual punishment.

I'll stay here and watch it on the big screen outside on the lanai, in shorts and a T-shirt.

Smokeabowl?

That is a terrible location for the superbowl!  Jersey? In February?
I am sure the good Governor had nothing to do with it.

I heard they were going to modify the rules for QB's to be two hand touch as well.

They're gonna give quarterbacks and receivers stress cards too.  :o

"Personal foul defense - stressing the quarterback - 15 yards - automatic 1st down."

"Pass interference defense - stressing the receiver - looking at the receiver too hard - the ball will be placed at the spot of the foul"

In light of the Hispanic influence in the U.S., henceforth the Broncos will be called Brancas 'round here.

if you were a seahawk fan. ::)

Wow. They dominated. Every phase of the game.
Denver never recovered from that first snap.

Hats off to the Seahawks.  They earned that title.

I don't think the Colorado audience got much out of those ads.
Too stunned to concentrate.  ???
I recall being intrigued by one
until it turned into the first car commercial.

It was all down the tube from there.

Not one of the better superbowls to watch...in fact it pretty much sucked. I was definitely expecting Manning and the boys to put up more points and a battle offensively, but as the old addage goes "you win some...and you lose some"

But congrats to the Seahawks as they certainly earned the title.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the half-time show more than anything else.

Just saw that. Pretty cool. The Colts Thursday games last couple years got picked up from NFL Network by one of our local stations which was cool. I guess if you're willing to pay them their price they'll gladly sell you the access at a local channel level.
