Title: Forgot to add whirlfoc...

It happens. Too busy concentrating on everything else, and I forgot to drop the whirlfloc tablet in the wort at the end of the boil.

Normally I wouldn't think too much about it, but I'm planning to enter this beer in competition. Is it possible to add whirlfloc after the boil? Like if I boil the tablet in a bit of water, then add that to the wort?

What style of beer?

Maybe clear it with gelatin post fermentation?

+1 to gelatin.  Save the whirlfloc for the kettle.

This is on my list of experiments to be performed. I have read on the internet that you can use Irish Moss (the active ingredient in whirlfloc) post fermentation in the same way you would use isinglass of gelatin but I have not found the time yet.

If gelatin is an option for you go with that. If not, give the whirlfloc a try. It's not going to hurt anything. But also Cold and Time will often suffice to clear most beers.

Do isinglass and irish moss have the same electrical charge? I'm not worried about the yeast clearing, I used WLP 001 and it settles out fine. I'm more concerned with clearing out the proteins.

No it is negatively charged.

Hmmmmm ..... wonder how those Germans make crystal clear beer without the use or WF? ;) As long as your pH was in line the WF isn't really necessary. It definitely does help in clarification, but I've made plenty of beers that have not used it that were brilliantly clear.

I haven't used Irish Moss or WF in 50 or so batches. It's nice to know you can make a beer so clear you can read a newspaper through it with proper technique.

That too! The German brewers can even use PVPP, because it is not in the beer after filtering.
