I got on site a couple of minutes ago and discovered I was logged on as someone else! I don't remember the logon name though. I hit logout and discovered that it said I was currently logged in as myself and that the logout didn't work. (It said an error occurred)
The picture of me below my screen name is also now gone. And I went to post a reply and it came up with a timeout message (I hadn't been typing a long time), but I just hit 'post' again and it went through.
Everything else seems to be working.

Thanks for the info Steve.
We moved the site and forum to a new server yesterday and there are still a few bugs we're working out, and we have a few more graphical updates to the forum coming today. I do see that the forum avatars are missing. I will investigate.
We also implemented a new single-signon function from the main aha site to the forum, so if you're email addresses are synced up between your AHA account and Forum account, we auto log you in.
When you saw the wrong name in the header, had you logged in via the web site, or via the forum?
Please continue to let us (or me directly) know about any bugs you encounter.
Thanks!
-Nate

The last couple of times I've posted I get the post kicked back with a red warning box like the one that says "There have been one or more new posts made to this topic since...". This warning box says "Your session has timed out, please log in and try again." When I hit the submit button a second time (without logging in) it goes through and posts normally.
Edit: When I submitted this post it went through first try.

When I saw the wrong name it was from a previous login (I set it to always remember me) on the forum site.
Thanks! you guys do a great job.

yesterday I found myself suddenly thinking my mash tun is the wrong color. I looked at the top of the screen and it said "Welcome, denny!" :o
thankfully that nightmare is over. seems to be working fine now.

Hey, if you think being me is a nightmare for YOU, imagine what it's like for me!

I suddenly only have 3 posts... I have posted hundreds of times. Not that it matters that much, really... though there is that other problem with my AHA membership going through 1/1/70. Site migrations can be fun!

Yeah, it logged me on as you, yso191, and as Denny another time. I also gave up trying to post a couple of times, as it kept saying I was timed out.
Oh, well. Site looks great otherwise.

Hi there-
We have fixed the issue with displaying your membership date showing at 1/1/70.
re: login issues - we have not been able to find the root of the problem. For those of you having issues - are you logging in to the forum directly, or via the web site, then clicking the large 'forum button'?

Forum directly.
-
Forum directly for me too.
Nate when I saw your screen name I recognized it as the one I was logged in as when that occurred. So apparently there was a temporary swap of some sort.

When I login my info is correct, but I have to login everytime I visit the site. I always check the box to stay logged in forever, but it doesn't remember me anymore. My browser settings haven't changed. Minor annoyance, but otherwise love the site.

Glad to see it is not just me. My viewing the site has an entire new appearance. The text is
much easier to read. Resembles when you change the resolution of your monitor.
Also my avitar is only showing the red x place marker.

Thanks Denny. Rebooting pc and router maybe that'll change my result
-
I have to continue to log in on my ipad each time even though I've set it for "forever" but my pc running on Firefox doesn't require that.
-
rebooted all systems, my avitar is red x and so is jeffy. I had to log in again tho I set it to
forever as well.....

There are two accounts for kgs, one has 4 posts, one has 736. I have no idea why you're logged in as the other one.
-
If you like your forum you can keep your forum... (three periods!!!) 8)
-
FYI, When I arrived at the site this morning, I got to be majorvices for a moment. :-*
It said Welcome majorvices at the top, I could see all the sub forums that are not normally exposed for me...like the moderator section and the Industry section.
I clicked out and returned and it was back to normal.
Weird quirks; an aptly named thread.

Hmmm, in my line of business having two accounts with the same name would be a name authority issue. But I'm logged in as my old self today. I didn't create a new account, have a password change, or anything like that. I wonder what my doppelganger brews...

Earlier today I had to log in again, but this time when it asked me for my name and password I skipped that and hit the log in button. It worked without a password. Odd.

Happened to me again today. A few days ago I was someone else. Today I was Denny.
I'm wondering if someone else might have gotten logged in under my account.
We need to know whether there's a risk of account compromise, someone getting in, changing my password, viewing my account profile info, viewing my PMs, etc.

;D, Me too. Pretty interesting being Keith in the morning and Denny in the afternoon. :P
FWIW, Poor Denny only gets the flat blue screen, with none of the new colors or fonts the rest of us are getting with the new AHA scheme. :o
-
Well I got to be Majorvices for a minute.

Well I got to be Majorvices for a minute.
I suddenly found myself wanting to tell someone to make a starter and pick up their trash. ;)
FWIW, for Monday morning IT,
it seems that if you try and access the site immediately after a moderator signs on, you get to see the site as the moderator would. I just got the welcome major vices screen again and he was the first user listed in the online member list.
However, any actions to try and access different areas that a mod might have access (try to click on the Moderator section) kicks you to a Login screen that says umm yea, you really don't have access to this, please sign on.
Hope this helps.

That's my choice. I hate the yellow/orange/brown scheme.

I heard from Nate that they've been working on the login problems and changed some settings that may help. Let us know.

Negative. I was on earlier this evening normally. An hour later, I come back and I'm signed in as another user (not an admin).
This really does have to stop.

Yesterday I logged in and it showed me as your username. I logged out and back in and i was still logged in as you. I tried it again and it worked but it was really weird.
-
I wasn't automatically logged in last night on the ipad, but was this am on the pc.
Another quirk: I always click the "unread" button and read all those posts by clicking the "back" button after each one. Last night on the ipad this step would eliminate the post I just read from the list. That's not normal (not in a Three Floyds way).
-
Hi Steve-
Can you let me know exactly what time you experienced the login bugs? We made a change around 4pm on Dec 23rd that couldhave/shouldhave fixed the issue.
-
Hi Steve-

Dec. 22 4:50PM Pacific time. I have not been logged in as anyone else since then. But there continue to be login issues of a less entertaining variety. I always set my login to stay logged in forever, but I regularly (even this morning was logged out. But as I was went to the login screen I saw that I was logged in as myself without doing anything - in other words by merely going to the login page I became logged in.
Another weird thing is that when I am posting a response to a thread, it frequently tells me it has timed out even though the time from clicking 'Respond' to when I click 'Post' is not unusually long.
Minor issues. Hope this helps.
-
The only login issue I have had is being logged out when I have checked the stay logged in option. The fix is hitting the reload button on the browser. Works for me at least.

That's one I personally haven't seen. I stay logged in.

Just used a bookmark to jump to this forum on my iPad. The page loaded as my identity being Denny, at the Administator's index page. When I clicked on a link it took me to a log in page.
Wierd [sic] quirks indeed! :o

This morning I was the professor for a minute. I felt smarter.
Now I'm back to being Jeffy.

This morning I was the professor for a minute. I felt smarter.
Now I'm back to being Jeffy.
Just about five minutes ago I was logged in as The Professor. I am a professor, but not The Professor.
Logged out, then logged in as myself and that fixed it this time.
-
I post a comment 5 minutes after logging on and it tells me to try again because I'm timed out. Happened several times.
-
It identified me as riverrat today.
-
I tried to post a new topic a minute ago and it told me I wasn't allowed to post to that forum, so I hit the back button and retyped everything in again. This when it posted it I was logged in as someone else...
I don't want somebody else getting credit for my post! How am I ever supposed to make it to "Official Poobah of No Life"???? :o
-
It identified me as riverrat today.
I swear I saw you pop up on my login the other day Denny.
-
I hope they can do something to restore the "back" button. For me it acts like the "unread" button and eliminates the post I've just read from the queue.
-
Great, I am suddenly beerdette instead of ThatGeekGuy. I know I had a few beers yesterday, but I think I would have noticed a sex change. I do suddenly feel pretty though....
And there's still a bunch of broken links all over the site, can't access e-zymurgy. Which I would like to do since someone told me I'm in the new Gadgets issue.
-
OK, I'm back to being myself again. Which is nice, 'cause the heels were killing me....
-
I have no idea what any of you are talking about. Even before the site change I was usually Denny, Drew, Gordon, JZ. and JP all rolled into one, with a little Steve Martin, Jimmi Hendrix, and John Wayne added in for fun.

I'll have to make the trip South just to be introduced to the Jimi Hendrix you.

I've been wondering why, with each update, this forum gets more quirky. Simple answer:
Simple Machines Forum (http://www.simplemachines.org)software is free.

That's been happening to me on two different computers. Reloading the page works for me as well.

What's up with all the recent spam?
-
Yeah, one spam post for girlie boots and another for porn. Weird.

Last week I was RedBeerMan, then I was banned.
Forum software seemed to settle down, then yesterday I was Steve in TX.
Today I'm back to myself.
-
Nate and the IT team have been working on this and tried a few things that hopefully will resolve the login and spam issues. If you see problems from here on, please post them to this thread so they'll be collected in one place.
FWIW, the sluggishness yesterday was related to a delayed backup that should have run in the middle of the night.
-
Trust me, you don't want to be me. Just go engaged and I am already stressed over the cost of a wedding. Non-banquet room Northern California venues average $10k for 100-120 people.

You should elope and buy a nice 1-2 bbl electric brewhouse.
-
Here's a clue that was hinted at earlier. Just now I opened the forum and it said, "welcome bigchicken." I logged out and logged back in (without a name and password entered) as Jeffy and checked the bottom of the homepage where I found that the last person to log on was bigchicken. Obviously some relationship there.
-
I logged in a minute ago and got to be Denny.
This forum is turning into Being John Malkovich ;)
-
Oddly my login seems much more stable when on my iPad versus on the PC. I do not use tapatalk or whatever the mobile version is in case that matters.
-
This time I got to be Denny briefly. I was going to post something wicked but I was just too
lazy pragmatic
HA upon pressing the post button I got the Timed out message
-

You're the only person other than me that I've heard about the timeout from.
FWIW, the forum is acting completely normal for me today!
-
I get the timeout message when posting fairly regularly. I just hit post again and it takes it though.

Happens to me too.
I also find that if the system logs me out, I can go to the regular AHA page, then hit the back button and it will log me back in.
-
I haven't noticed being logged in as another user for a few days now.
The quirk I'm experiencing now on a couple different machines is when I go to post a comment, I get an Error Message: your session has expired
Then I look up and the screeen still says "Welcome, Pinski"
Doesn't happen every time but almost every time, and the post usually goes through after a couple runs at the Post buttom. Only lost a couple full messages.

Three tries to post were just rejected for time-out/log-in. Fourth try went through without logging in.
Go figure huh?
-
I have to log in every time and I can use pretty much any password I want
Saturday morning edit:
This time I used "mypassword" and got in.
I just tried logging in as punatic(sorry, it was the last name I saw) with the password "everyman" and it logged me in as myself.
-
Last two replies I've lost completely and had to log back in. Not the timeout/ re-submit issue, but the "you are not allowed to post" error.
-
No worries corky, it is an honor to represent every man! ;D
Having lost numerous posts into ether-space, I have learned to copy my posts before submitting them. That way when they disappear all I have to do is paste them back into a reply and try submitting them again.

I just thought I'd mention that I haven't had any weird quirks in 3+ days. And this thread has been quiet.
It seems the bugs are behind us. Good job IT!
-
I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like it that the back button acts as an unread button.
I can live with this, but I'd rather read all the posts first and then reply to the ones I can contribute to.

+1. Still timing out regularly even though I log in to stay logged in too. Also, every 3 or 4 posts still come back as timed out - I hit the post button and it will post it.

heh - thanks morticaixavier and yso191. It is nice to get a shout out every now and then.
re: login issues - yes, it's possible we found the culprit. Please report any new bugs here.
re: timeout issue - I had set the session length to 20 minutes while working on the login bugs. I have now reset it back to 120 minutes.
Or are you talking about the bug where you'd get a timeout error when making a new post?

I just had this happen to me.
I logged into a "recent post" then hit the "Homebrewers Association | AHA Forum" link to back up to the main page.
I was logged in as "mojito65".

Hi Everyone-
I've received some support from the developers of Simple Machines Forum and will be implementing a few changes to the forum today. You may see the site go in to maintenance mode for a few minutes, or be auto-logged out. No need to report that behavior, but please continue to report bugs of logging in as the wrong person!
-Nate
-
Thanks, Nate. Just got the logout thing...good to know it was you!

Once again I have to log in every time, and I don't have to get my password correct. Even if I check the Always stay logged in box I have to log in every time.

I'm having the same problem again. Sometimes I can log back in by clicking on the AHA link and the clicking the forum button there. Weird I don't have to login when I do those steps.
-
Experiment time - if you've logged in as "stay logged in" - just hit the login button that greets you at the top right. When I do it lets me right in.

Ahh, I think I know what the problem is.. when you come to the forum - you come in on http. When you login, the forum redirects to https. Cookies (such as the one for your login) that are placed during an https session are not accessible while viewing a site in http mode. This is a sandboxing measure for security. When you hit "login" up top, it takes you into https mode, the site accesses your cookie and then you're logged in automatically.
In other words - when you come to http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php it should automatically redirect you to https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php, but it doesn't

That being the case, I changed my bookmark to the https site and now I don't have to log in each time. Thanks!

Now I am having issues with Tapatalk. Wouldn't load threads and doesn't seem to be updating. I logged out and it won't allow me to log back in. Deleted the app and re-installed, no go. Anybody else?

Hi Steve-
Yes, it looks like our fix to make the forum more secure locked out tapatalk. We're on it.

I used a bookmark to try to access the forum around 4-5 hours ago and all that appeared was a gozillion lines of code.
Same bookmark I always use to get here.

This is a very small issue. I miss the icon next to the name on my favorites list. When I switched to the https site it went away, and in its place is the generic 'e'.

Hi Steve-
Yes - there's a bug with how Simple Machines Forum grabs icons over https vs http. It's something on our list to fix.
