The Kansas City Bier Meisters are hosting our 31st Annual Competition. This year's theme is "Where the Wild Beers Are". There is a special category and a special prize for any "Wild Ale". Guidelines here: http://www.kcbiermeisters.org/competitions/kcbm-competition.html#Guidlines (http://www.kcbiermeisters.org/competitions/kcbm-competition.html#Guidlines)
This year, we are partnering with Cinder Block Brewing to ramp up one lucky brewer's recipe. We are also capping the competition at 600 entries this year.
What does this mean to you? Well, we are a stop on the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year circuit, the High Plains circuit and the newly formed KC Homebrewer of the Year circuit. Also, we are filling up quickly. How quickly? The entry window opened up 5 hours ago and we are 20% full.
So if you need to get in on these circuits, want a chance to have your beer brewed on a 15 BBL commercial scale or just want these really cool BOS prizes (hopefully below), then you should get in on this soon. Enter here: http://www.kcbiermeisters.org/comp (http://www.kcbiermeisters.org/comp)

Want to volunteer? We love taking care of our volunteers. Sub sandwiches and donuts? Not here. Smoked brisket, breakfast casserole and Waldo pizza just for taking time out of your life to help us pull this off.
Cheers!

Just entered 2 entries and paid using Paypal, but they didn't get marked paid. I did return to the registration page after paying (and got my paypal confirmation and credit card authorized ).
-
Just finished importing 3 entries and thanks for the heads up on the comp in another thread!
Now to pay, print, package and ship:)
-
I will have to ask the webmaster what our database is set to refresh at, but rest assured, your payment is in hand.
Cheers guys!

Ah...I'm so impatient. I sent a message off to John from the comp website... :-[
Automatic docking of 5 points from my score!

I got the message forwarded to me as well. We are looking into it.
I'm gonna send a nasty-gram back with your scoresheets! Ha! ;D

The "marked as paid" issue is an issue with the version of the BCOE we have loaded currently (BCOE&M 1.3.0.3).
Our webmaster will be updating the database later tonight/tomorrow in order to fix the bug. FYI.
-
Mine are now marked as paid. Thanks and good luck to everyone who's entered.
Amanda - how close is it to filling up now?

We are at 1/3 full 30 hours into the entry window. I've never seen numbers like this.
-
I enter three earlier thus week. First comp ever.
Planned to do it last year, bottled em, never entered em.
Got Monday off so I'll be bottling.
Looks like the marked as paid may still be an issue but you're probably aware.
-
If anyone is having trouble with the comp website not remembering your password, please use Firefox or Chrome. IE does not seem to play well with the latest version of the database.
Thanks!
BTW - only 150 entry slots left.
-
My entries are supposed to be delivered today.....hopefully not completely frozen:) fingers crossed!
-
Entered several again - Hoping I did not use up all my luck last year.

Kevin, if you don't get first with any of your beers, I'll be hunting them down and taking them home with me. ;D I still remember your Pale Ale from last year.
Good luck!

Ok - now I am going to be suspicious if I get a bunch of second places ;)
7th snow day this month here tomorrow... so, a good day to get bottles filled and ready to send out. You guys did a great job with the comp. last year - looking forward to it.
-
I'm sending one more entry in. Entry number was in the low 500's, so it's getting close to filling up ( assuming everyone paid their fees).
-
28 entry spots left! 8)

According to UPS, my entries are in Kansas but delayed by "adverse weather conditions."
Hope they get there by Friday. If Ol' Man Winter craps all over my first competition entry I'll be the crazy guy in the street shaking my fist at the sky.

Things are clearing up here, I'm sure the delay will only be for one day.

With the release of Boulevard's Chocolate Ale today, our President, Steve Cook has cooked up a plan to honor an local airman, Ryan, who is on his way back from Afghanistan in the coming days. Ryan asked his wife for one thing for Valentine's Day: a single bottle of Chocolate Ale. (In case you aren't from here - it's pure craziness to find just one bottle.)
In response, the Kansas City Bier Meisters are out scouring the city to try and get this man a full case of Chocolate Ale. Steve has bought him and his wife tickets to our Spiegelau tasting and our beer pairing banquet. We will have a special reception for him at our banquet.
We are also holding a virtual food drive for the area's only food bank, Harvester's. We have set it up as a state rivarly - Missouri vs Kansas. If you want more info about that, visit http://mashingformeals.harvesters.org (http://mashingformeals.harvesters.org)
I just wanted to take the time to brag on my homebrew club. I am so proud to be a part of a group that not only brews great beer, but can pull together in a moments notice to do literally anything, especially something as cool as this. It is simply amazing what the homebrew community can do.
If you want to help donate to the charity side of our competition, either contact me directly via PM or post back here.
Cheers guys.

You all sound like good folks Amanda.

You'll have to wait for the weekend. :) @kcbiermeisters will be live tweeting the results.

I didn't enter any more than two in any category, so I suppose Bronze *IS* still available.

Thanks Amanda...I just followed. Of course I'm going to be at a brewfest on Saturday in Portsmouth, NH so there may be some drunken retweets. :)

Myles (the better half and tweeter of the Bier Miesters) loves retweets. Especially drunk ones! ;D Personally, I'm not sure I understand the Twitter, but whatever works to get the information out!

congrats on the cider gold. Briefly thought I had you beat. ;)
Hope to see some of your cider at NHC.
Amanda is quite inebriated right now but she did an amazing job on this comp. I recommend this competition to anyone.
cheers--

I blame whatever tasty beverage you gave me on my quick trip to drunk town. I hope everyone liked my drunken speech! :)
Do I need to be concerned about any of the other meads you gave me??

Inebriated or not.... I would second the fact that it is a great comp. As someone who is located 150-300 miles from any of the "major" competitions, making it unlikely that I can ever attend, I really appreciate the live results, quick turnaround of results and information, etc. The use of facebook, twitter, forums, etc. to communicate is appreciated (by others, too, I am sure) when we can't be there in person. Thanks for running a great competition.

Thanks! Two of my four entries to NHC are going to be ciders.
Any chance that speech made it to Youtube? ;)
Edit: Wow Michael - awesome job on your entries. Did someone help you carry all your medals out? Taking gold in IPA and 3 out of the 6 cider/perry medals. Impressive. Good luck at NHC...maybe we'll go head-to-head again.
-
Got my score sheets today. Very pleased with the feedback.
Also pleased with a 43 and mini best of show. Nice for my first comp.
The other two entries were not quite there, but the feedback is good.
-
Congrats joe! Still waiting on my sheets, my ESB got a 35 and my pale a 32, looking forward to the reviews.
-
Cool. Where did you see the scores with out the sheets? On-line?
The stout is going to the NHC, I have to decide on the others. My old ale was not quite to style, so I have to figure out if it can go in another category maybe. And I'll tap the other batch of dubbel to see how it compares.

Yeah, the day after the comp the scores were posted on your entry page next to your entries and after that the home page had all the results for each category and the winners. Now I'm awaiting the Drunk Monk results being judged next weekend.
Good luck on the stout, I passed this year on the NHC, last year's debacle kind of put me off and I really couldn't wrap my head around my entries and getting motivated. I figured I would see how this year's comp played out and jump in again next year. From what I've read it appears a lot of the changes really went through well this year which is a great thing!
-
Amanda, will this competition be about the same time (Feb 21-ish) in 2015? I'm trying to plan my competition brewing schedule for next year.
Thanks!

Did you just get a job translating English to English? ;D
Thanks...looking forward to going up against you in the cider categories again. Just so you know, I just got 2 golds and Cider Maker of the Year in a local comp...so bring it! ;) (you know, that phrase just isn't me )
