I think that Drew has been talking to Fred about a place at the conference itself where we could all get together.  But it's kinda third hand info at this point.

I'll be there with my girlfriend and a couple buddies.  We're driving out on Weds morning (though she will be joining later as she is a teacher and could not get weds off).  Thankfully it's only about a 2 hour drive for us ;-)

I think that's a special place for authors, Denny.

I'll be there, flying solo this year. Would be great to put some faces to the avatars.

I'm going to my 1st NHC and I would very much like to have a beer with all of the forum mates.

I'm not getting there until Thursday - it's my first conference and I look forward to meeting forum contributors and hearing some great talks, then having some great beers.  I just don't know what to expect in terms of time frames.  It sounds like I will be busy at the NHC!  My wife is tagging along as a good sport...so I hope she can stay interested.

Myles and I will be there starting on Wednesday. I'm sure he will love to see the real source of all of the times I've said, "So I was reading on the AHA Forum..." Haha

Yep, good idea.  There are people from every forum I participate in going to NHC.  It would be great to have a big room for a set time and invite all forums to show up.

Well, I might leave Eau Claire with some........  But Grand Rapids is a long ways......

Just kidding guys, of course Kelly and I would be your delivery folks.

And Leos, I'm trying to expand my beer horizons into Lagers.  Very much looking forward to trying some of your efforts.  Although we'll probably be there around 10am on the 10th.

My suggestion is to skip new Glarus. Then you can stay longer. No worry I will give you a lager class. Not all of them are yellow and fuzzy. Some of them are brown and fuzzy :)

A fellow club member will be in Grand Rapids, and has threatened my life if I don't bring him some Belgian Red.

You can buy Belgian red in grocery store. No need to drive to brewery. So you will be saved.

I think they have up to 4 beers in that line up. I am in the Liquer stores every week but do not pay too much attention to it.

We are actually spending the night in New Glarus.  Split the drive up a bit, then we have time take in the country side.  I've never been East of you in Wisconsin, and certainly never to Illinois or Michigan.

We won't be rushed at Lazy Monk.

All right then.

Be carefully in IL. I heard that those people there walk on their hands and us their feet to drive. :)

Actually southern WI is quite pretty. It has very strong connection to northern IL.

There's another way to walk and drive?

I am from northern Illinois, and have lots of family in southern WI. It is indeed lovely, especially the driftless area. Central Illinois...well, it has its bright spots.

I had a very pleasant drive through the countryside from Milwaukee to New Glarus and back a few years ago.  I am jealous.

Taking 31 down out of WI? More opportunity for pit stops, less cops than the toll road. Lucky Monk, maybe?  Not much else to the North for beer, the city, and south of have much more choice.

Y'know, it took me moving away from the area to realize just how beautiful it really is.

Hope you all have a good time at NHC! I don't think I will make it, even though I might be in Kalamazoo during it.

Are we all gonna have name tags that say our online handle?  Many of us just use our name.  But many use something a bit more creative.

LOL.

Maybe this could be a suggestion for the AHA or the organizing committee for future NHC's.  Actually have a room/time reserved for the all the forum users.  (and all the different forums)

Maybe for the last month before the conference, we can all post our pictures on our profiles so we will recognize everyone.  I'll start:

Ok...here's the real me (also on the left) out Geocaching with the family.  You can decide which picture of me is better  ;D

mead exam in 11 hours; time to start studyin'
well, maybe after another trip to Founders.  The AHA collaboration beer is great...

looks like the meetup is the same place as all the cider seminars.  And after the seminars, there should be some great ciders in the Social Club.  I *heart* Cider Friday.  8)

We had the AHA beer, an Oaked Rye IPA, that was a recipe that was brewed by our friend Jeff Carlson with Founders. A little heavy on the oah for me, but good. It is one of the commemorative bottles. The other was a Barleywine from Bells that Jeff says he helped brew the next day.

Man, my wife took some pictures of me New Year's Day that looked pretty similar to that.  Rough.    ;)

Major, I couldn't find you so I gave that empty HopCat growler to somebody local after the dinner.  Thanks for bringing it.  It sure beat the alternative!

Dang! I missed the picture!

I had a blast at NHC and meeting some of you guys for the first time (and others for the second, third, etc). :)

Bummed I missed out on meeting up.  I got 'stuck' with the group I came with and didn't get over to it :-/ I brought a bottle of mead and everything for it...

I tried to introduce myself to hopfenundmalz at least a half dozen times, but always someone was talking to him.  Popular guy.

A few ideas for next year.

I think the time and place (lunch break between seminars in a meeting room) and it's probably easy to set up in the future since AHA is already paying for the room.

I met a few people who didn't know about it but would have gone. Maybe it could be on the conference overview schedule next year? Or maybe that would attract way to many people and ruin it?

Nametags to write your forum name on - especially if it gets bigger.

More than one person should bring beer.

Need to thank Sean. He bought that growler and I coaxed it away from him.

Combination of the conference in my state, and I have been going for a long time (9th a NHC). It is about the people you get to be friends with. That is what we look forward to each year, seeing the people we know from around the country.

I was busier than usual. My wife was crazy busy the whole conference, she did 18 hours of work. She was head steward, poured for the BJCP exam and Reception on Wed, and poured for a couple of talks.

Figured out who you are. We sat a few tables apart for the banquet, and congratulations on the Gold and Silver medals. Thought you were going to be the Ninkasi winner.

Yes, I would have remembered if it had been on the calendar.  I was constantly looking at that.

I'm in the front row on the far left.  I should have brought beer - but it was my first conference and I didn't know a whole lot about the protocol.  My question for San Diego is how to get beer out there, if I fly out there next June.  Any thoughts on that?  It would be nice to be able to ship some, like you would to a contest.

By the way - Denny and Drew's talk was the most entertaining one that I attended!  I had a lot of fun at the NHC and volunteered six hours, so I look forward to listening to the seminars I missed.

Cheers, all!

I'm sure you could ship to the hotel and get it at check in. Most will do that.

I've also checked lots of craft and homebrew in my luggage.

If you volunteered, you earn extra interwebz points! Good on you!

The conference depends on volunteers to do the behind the scenes jobs.

Thanks, Jimmy for the insight.  I have not checked a bag in so long that I didn't think about that!  Good to know on both counts.

Jeff - I wanted to give something back to the hobby and Carol was sooo grateful for the helpers.  Besides, pouring beer to beer enthusiasts is no hardship - the easiest volunteer job I have ever done, for sure.

Just pack it well and watch the weight. It's easy to go overweight with glass and liquid. Have a scale so you can check before heading to the airport. I don't use my largest suitcase for this because it easily gets too heavy.
