The fiancee has a 10 year old white terrier mix rescue guy named "Toby" who's help on brewdays usually consists of coming over every 20 minutes or so to check out that I'm there doing my thing before finding a quiet place to collapse.

Tomorrow we pick up another rescue guy... an 8lb red squirrel looking Chihuahua named Sammy. He's 5. We'll see how he does as a brew dog. Gotta remember not to lose him in the mash tun!

I love retrievers. They are awesome family pets. Great with kids. Just all around great dogs

Do you have any water (ponds, lakes, etc...) nearby. If my Lab sees water...he's in it. I wish I had a pond in my yard for him.

Another set of beautiful dogs.

Thanks!

I don't hunt, but I do frequently take her hiking and she's an excellent outdoors companion. She also makes for a great guard dog but at the same time has the absolute sweetest disposition.

Hard to believe that someone left her at a shelter.

thanks!  yeah, these two really stole my heart - they really are some of the best friends.

we do have a 70-80 acre lake down the street that I run them around, but believe it or not, they don't really care about the water.  they like to splash in shallow water but don't swim.  my wife and I rescued both of them at a shelter (my wife volunteers there from time to time) and I don't wonder if the lab in particular wasn't traumatized before he got to us at ~ age 2.

that's okay though, I prefer to only have to give them a bath every few weeks!

I see a recurring theme of rescued dogs here. That's so awesome. I have two pound pups myself and couldn't have asked for better dogs. First is a black lab/great dane mix who is our crazy girl Talledega. After about 6 months of her being a pure lab (destruction, hyper, etc) we found Sugar Bear, our Maremma Sheepdog at another pound. She is the complete opposite of Tally, but is loyal and protective to a fault. I'll post pics soon, but again, so great to see so many people adopting.

I see a recurring theme of rescued dogs here. That's so awesome.

Rescues are so kick-ass. They usually so damn grateful to their new pack and super loyal.

I seriously cannot understand how so many animals end up abandoned (I'm not talking the feral ones). All of the stories we had last year of families abandoning their homes due to the mortgages were bad enough, but out here there were a number of cases where they abandoned their dogs too. One case, someone locked their German Shepherd inside the house with a big bowl of water and split open bag of dog food. It took so long for the authorities to enter the house that the dog was eating the dry wall out of sheer need.

Bastards deserve a righteous ass kicking.

Not my dog in avatar but very representative of him. Have had rescue dogs earlier in life but the past two have been high falootin' bird dogs. ALL of my dogs live better than a lot of children in this country. I don't give a rip about most adults but when it comes to kids and animals, you won't find a more fierce defender. Anyone who would violate the innocence of either receives no mercy from me.

What kinda birds you hunt maxieboy? Growing up, we had a Brittany Spaniel (Jody) that was an amazing pointer/retriever for quail and dove. My dad told me a story once that Jody caught a pheasant on the fly one hunt. I really want to get one, but I'm afraid no dog will live up to Jody and on top of that, I have no idea how to go about training one, let alone the time to do it. So I'm happy just hunting dove for now and retrieving them myself.

Also, because of similar environs and the willingness to stay put while pointed, woodcock. Sadly, it's population is trending downward and presents a dilemma for the die hard wingshooter. They are easily detected by a good dog and hold so well when pointed, pulling the trigger is now a very tough choice.

couldn't agree more.  2 weeks after we got abby, we took her to the shelter and let her pick her brother out.  IMO they need some kind of pack (even if at times its only the 2 of them), otherwise they get lonely.

Here's Darwin, our 3 year old chocolate lab.

I love Labs. Especially Chocolates. Beautiful dog!

Luther is the black lab, 10 years old.  Gracie is the Lab/Chesapeake, 9 years old.
Kitty Kitty, King of the great outdoors.

Let me guess...you are holding a treat above the camera. Those Labs are beauties!

...and that cat has some beautiful markings.  8)

I must have the only Doberman mix that is afraid of cameras, thus no pictures.  ???

You have to catch him on candid camera. 8)

I've tried that and she can hear camera turn on, then she heads for the closet.

I can get all of the closet pictures I need.  ;)

Turn on some loud music so she can't hear it and ask her to say alpo or something.  ;D

How did you guess? ;D The pics don't do them justice, Lou is 125# and not fat Gracie is 107# I love big Labs! I love all the furry little guys for that matter.

Once I figure out how to post a picture I'll show Daisy, our 10 year old beagle. Got her when she was 2 from someone a few blocks away.
Sometimes she even lets us sit on her couch!
She cleans up any spilt grain while brewing.
If you see a beagle at the Falling Rock Tap House, we're probably there with her.  ;D

Really really cool dogs you have there. They look like real pals. Do you brew with them?

I used to. I've moved brewing operations to the garage instead of the back patio. They're a bit too hyper to be around open flames and 12 gallons of boiling wort.

Yeah...I know what you mean there. Safety first.  8)

This was our brew dawg, Wilbur.  He hung out with us every time we brewed.  One of his favorite things was to clean up the spilled grain from milling and licking up the wort that splashed out of the bucket from agitation.  Unfortunately we lost him to cancer a week ago. He did like his beer though and at the end, the only way we could get him to take his medicine was to mix it with a bit of beer.
