Title: NHC 2016 Final Round scores
Post by: jvoeltz on June 10, 2016, 09:57:27 PM
Anyone else find it kind of anti-climatic to see your final round scores / places a day before the awards ceremony??

Sure, I didn't have to look at brewingcompetition.com/final, but I did...  :o

When did you check it? I didn't see anything up for mine.

Did you have any luck this year?

It still shows up for me....have you tried logging out and logging back in?

My mead scored a 40 and made it to mini-BOS but didn't place...still not a bad showing for that mead: mead BOS at a major comp last fall, NHC 1st round silver, Mazer Cup honorable mention, and NHC Final Round mini-BOS.

Too bad I don't have the recipe or brewing notes to make it again someday...  :-[

Yeah.  Nothing shows up for me unfortunately. Do you know anyone else that was able to view theirs?

That is still a great score and I know the feeling with that dreaded mini-BOS in the final round. Always, oh so close...

Just checked and nothing for me. Just wondering if I need to listen live to the results tomorrow.

So, I am not there in Baltimore this weekend. If I medal, will I be contacted?
Thanks

You will be able to see all the winners sometime after the awards ceremony is done. Be patient, it will be up, and you can see.

I cant figure out how to check. Either my password isnt working,  or I forgot it. And I cant change it because there's no displayed question for the verification answer. Oh well, I'll just have to be surprised

Same here. Would like to check scores afterwards. I hope they fix it.

I could get into mine earlier.... but mine is doing the exact same thing now.  Perhaps they just disabled the whole thing until after the awards.

Security question is  last name followed by zipcode, no spaces, but it still dont work.  But if it did that would take all the fun out of it.  Waiting is the hardest part.

No medal for me, but I know a guy who got a bronze Nathan Zorich - White Salmon, Wa. Close enough.

I think its awesome that a guy from Athens, Greece won with an American Stout! Way to go!

Local club Cap and Hare had a really good night last night. Gambrinus plus several medals. I've had beers from almost all of them and they are well deserved medals. Those guys all make great beers.

Congrats to all the winners.

Cheered for both of you.

I also cheered for my Michigan friend Jeff Carlson. I think he really wanted number 5.

This is still happening for me :(

If the whole site was disabled, it would be nice to have a message to that effect rather than the username/password message.

Or blame because I didn't get Gold :)

Although the gold went to the Ninkasi winner, so I can't be too upset.  My silver in 2012 was 2nd to the Homebrewer of the Year...always a bridesmaid.. ;)

FWIW, finally able to get in to the final site now. Unsure what (if anything) changed.

Both of mine made it to mini-BOS. Got a 40 in fruit beer. No medals this time around though :(

Kudos to the organizers, judges and stewards, and all the medal winners—strong work all around!

Just checked the site and was able to log in and check scores.

I got a 38.5 for my Old Ale and it advanced to mini-BOS.  I bet it got docked a bit for some papery oxidation that I have been picking up on in the last couple weeks. Oh well, there is always next year. Congrats to all!

I was lead judge on that category; let me know if I judged it.  More likely you were robbed and Dixon was just hammered when he did your scoresheet.  ;D

FWIW, though, I have never hit 40 in the Finals, and now have 4 medals.  38.5 is very good

I almost got you into the 40s this year, but judge 2 was stingy and drug it down to a 39.5.  ::)

My medal winner scored a 40. 33 and 34.5 for the other two, which is about what they scored in the first round.

Ugh.... I think I am the opposite of you.  I have had 4 over 40 in the finals and no medals.  44 on Dortmunder this year was my "high" for the finals. I would gladly trade:)

Hmmmm.  Got a 38.5 for my mbos Hefe but a 0 for my RIS. does that mean they lost it or it wasn't judged?  It scored a 44 and a 1st place in the first round.........

I got a 40 for my vienna and made it mini-BOS, but got bumped.  Only a 33 for my german pils, which always scores high 30's to low 40s in the first round, but never gets above low 30s in the Finals.

Yes, and no.  Mostly good to great beers, but there are some stinkers on occasion.  Guys next to us received a really problematic Black or Brown IPA.  The first bottle was awful, so they asked for a second bottle, and it was only bad.  They wound up giving it a 19 (which honestly is the same as a courtesy 13 in most competitions).  Much like any other competition, bad bottles show up (infection or similar problems), and other times, it's a rushed rebrew that didn't turn out the same.  This one had some manner of infection.  They poured the steward a big cup to 'thank him' for bringing it to them.

I scored a 41 for my cream ale, which made mini-bos but did not place. First time I've made it that far, and I am still without a medal after five final round appearances.  There is always next year.

Hey, last time I had one in the second round was Philly. Had a nice run, but the last 3 years makes me say "there are a lot of good Brewers out there".

Totally agree with Toby's comments.  Some of the 2nd round beers are awesome.  Some of the styles that would benefit from rebrew are not, and the age shows, or, the rebrew is not as good as the one that got them there.

I was lucky enough to also judge 2nd round NHC BOS last year (San Diego).  Even then, we narrowed down to about the top 12 somewhat quickly.  After that, it got very difficult.
The Gueze that won that flight was simply phenomenal.

Going through the 24 beers (2 didn't send a 3rd bottle and weren't represented) quickly is the only way the hefe managed to win.  We wanted to kick flawed beers as soon as they landed on the table but couldn't hear over the stewards so we did have to let them finish.  After that though, 30 minutes.
