Title: 42!
Post by: a10t2 on July 11, 2010, 02:26:11 AM
My RIS scored a 42 at the IN State Fair! I know it isn't off the charts or anything, but it's the highest I've gotten so far. The crazy part is it didn't even go to the Mini-BOS. :o Lots of tough competition I guess, or just inflated scores in that category. A National-ranked judge wrote "great job" in the comments, though, so I'm thinking it's the former. Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

My dubbel and tripel scored a 38 and a 37.5 respectively, and my AIPA got a 36, so I'm pretty full of myself right about now. No bling though. ::)

Ouch.
The highest I got that didn't win or place was a 41 for a Cream Ale.
At least the competition is good!

The truth is, you and I would both cringe if we saw someone brewing this beer. It was my fifth extract batch, and I used dark LME, with a partial boil, no late addition, way too much hopping, dumped it on an entire yeast cake, and probably fermented close to 80°F. When it stopped at something like 1.055, I added Beano to the secondary and let it go for a few months until it got down to 1.034, then kegged it. It was at least a year until it was even drinkable, and four until it was good.

Don't dump your beers, people!

BTW, BOS this year was a Northern English Brown. I was ecstatic to see a session beer win.

Your on to something good then, if 4 of your beers scored in the high 30's and one breaking the 40 mark. Great job. You got to be proud any time you break the 40 mark.

And he still don't know nothing!
(My Grandpa used to say that and I still don't know why.)
