For those who haven't seen it on another board, Keith is just about to get his brewery open and make some beer! Way to go, man! Maybe post some pics over here?
-
Right on Keith! Don't forget us "homebrew folk" now that you're big timing it!
Congrats!
-
Where are you going to be located?
We'll give you a couple months before we complain we can't get it in other parts of the country :)
-
That's pretty sweet. Definetely some pics.
-
congrats bud!
-
Thanks guys! No sexy pics of fermenters or brew stuff yet. Just construction - Ill be happy to post some.
A few more progress pix...

Wet area awaiting concrete pour (it's big enough for a 15 bbl system although we will be back to back 1.5 bbls into 3 bbl fermenters to start)

-
I take it you guys are doing the majority of construction yourselves?
-
Everything but the electrical. We have a few friends who are not part of the organization who have been amazingly helpful. Its like an amish barn raising!. ;D
-
Awesome,
Way to go

And that's what America was built on!!! Congrats Keith!!!

Very cool Keith! Best of luck!

Keith
will there be any yellowhammer available by August 5th? high school classmate lives in huntsville, and that is 30yr reunion weekend. i could maybe get her (if she is coming home) to bring some
-
We may be able to light the kettles by August 5th but I'm pretty sure there won;t be any beer by then. Regarrdless, we are going keg only to start.
One thing I didn't mention: we did get TTB approval just yesterday so, as far as the Feds are concerned, we are a legal brewery!
-
Congrats! Love the pics.
-
Orbs in the pics... you have company around you! Leave a bit of brew in the bottom of your glass for them!
-
I know what the weather's been like in the region. I can only image how much you guys sweat working concrete. Hats off to you, and yer helpers!
Can hardly wait to make the trip from West TN to sample the wares. :)
-
Don't hold back on the good pics Keith! ;)
-
Way to go Major!
-
As a small business owner (non-brewery, though), I applaud your efforts. Good job, man!
There will be a lot of happy people drinking your beer. Take pride in that!
-
Congrats! Must be a thrill to see all of your plans coming together. You'll be getting all us homebrewers dreaming! ;)
-
Congrats Major! Good luck. I'm sure the first time you fire up the kettle for real in the new digs will be quite a thrill.
-
Hopefully it won't keep ya from rubbing elbows with us riffraff here on AHA.
Congrats on the progress!
-

Congrats, man! Make sure you keep us posted. I'll come down and buy a pint off that first keg for sure. Then if it's any good I'll buy a second. ;)
-
Don't hold back on the good pics Keith! ;)
:) Honestly, I would have posted the picture of me digging in the Rancor pit with my "manpris" on but the picture somehow got corrupted along with a few other. I also don't have a picture of the interceptor tank on there - it got corrupted as well.

If the beer is no good it will get dumped down the center of that wet area, I can promise you that! ;)
Thanks for all the well wished everyone. I'll keep this page updated with progress. Anyone who comes down will certainly not have to pay for a beer - I can promise you that! 8)
-
Way to go man, way to go.
I raise a pint in your honor and wish you the best.
-
Very cool Major. Best of luck man!
-
very cool, good luck man.
Who's doing your welding?
You gonna put in a bottling line?
-
A little late, but I wanted to add my heartfelt congrats on your new endeavor, Keith. Glad yo hear your up and running at last.
I'm sure you've got a winner on your hands.
Shine on, brightly, Major!

How legal would a reverse competition be? Everyone bucks up for a bottle or two of the FLAGSHIP brew and you ship us yeast samples for evaluation. ??? Suppose it'd have to be your "personal" beer and not that of the brewery.
Just sayin'; I'm sure we'd all like to try the beer that launched a brewery...

I don't think it would be a problem if we donated the money to charity, or even the AHA. I'd be more than happy to participate in something like that. Depends on what Denny and the other Admins think.
Edit: Just reread your post. I mean - it would have to be a raffle or something. I'm simply not going to send everyone on the forum a bottle of beer. ;)
-
Hmmmm...interesting concept. Don't know if it's be legal or not, though. Let's talk in the mod forum....
-
Just wanna throw my congrats at you. My friends and family make sure my cellar stays empty because of your advice.
-
Awesome stuff!!
Congrats on making it happen. Where's this going to be located?

Yellohammer Brewing in Huntsville, AL. We are focusing on Belgian and German style ales with (what we hope will be) unique American twists. We also want to have a line of kick ass IPAs. Our motto is "European Tradition, Uniquely American". We will be draft only to start but we would like to start doing some limited bottlings in Belgian style bombers with cork, wire cap, the works. Problem is we won;t be able to sell them in Alabama at this point in time until they change the law. We are hoping to be able to fill growlers some time in the next few months out of the brewery door.
Starting very small. Basically just a 1.5 bbl system. We have a few 42 gallon blickmans and we also have some 3bbl jacketed, cooled conical fermenters on order. We plan on back to back batching. Once we are up and running and testing the maarket we plan on going to either a 7 or a 15 bbl system hopefully within 12-24 months.
-
I know a commercial operation is much, much different that what we do in our back yards.
But, you are going to batch sparge, right?
-
Actually, yes! At least to start. Batch sparging now with a pump and a 20 minute vorlauf. I'm getting very good results on the test system. Its really not going to be much different than a big homebrew operation to start except we have a wet area, a grain room and an office.

Have I said lately that I love you??? ;)
-
Yes, but not in front of everybody! :-[ ;D
-
Congratulations, Keith!! This Yankee is pretty excited for you. I'll be telling all of my Nashville friends about Yellowjacket ;).
-
Yellowjacket ;).

Congrats, Keith. Glad to hear it's all going well and that you'll be up and running soon. Cheers & beers!

Holy crap! I've been so out of the loop. That's f'ing fantastic man. Huge congrats to you. If I'm ever in your neck of the woods, you better believe I'll be stopping by. If the beers you're brewing are even half as good as the ones you sent me, you won't have any problems selling them.
Cheers!
-
I would make the trek from Colordo. As soon as you are open I'll head down for few pints.
Congrats on the progress and certification!
-
I just want to reiterate my thanks to all the well wishes and support! You guys are great and if any of you really do make it over to my neck of the woods please send me an email or PM and I will certainly take care of you, at least as far as beer is concerned!
And Tank - here's hoping the beer will be twice as good as what I sent you, rather than half as good! ;D
-
By the way, where in Huntsville? Close to the airport at all?
-
Never thought I'd be saying this, but... I wanna take a vacation to Huntsville, Alabama!
-

I don't know when, but someday, I'm gonna hold you to that. ;D
-

Brewery is just outside of downtown Huntsville which is ~20 minutes from the airport. I would recommend anyone who is really interested in coming by to wait until we are up and running a few months. We are starting out with only two beers (a Belgian White and an IPA) to go on draft but plan to ramp that up to 4 within 6 months and by then I plan to have all sorts of "projects" going on as well.
-
Excellent news!
I can't wait to try some.
Make sure you pitch plenty of healthy yeast. Oh... and did I say to pitch cool. ;D
I would love to be able to start a commercial brewery. My hat's off to you Keith.

If I do ever make it by, I'll be wearing my VT gear (figure I'm allowed since we scored more points against "yellowhammer" than anyone else last season). :)
-
Won't bother me any. I didn't move South until I was 23 so the whole "Bama" mystique is wasted on me. Now, my wife is an Alabama alumnus so I am a "fan" by default. But you won't see me wearing any 'Bama gear. ;)
Tennessee Titans, however, that's a different story. ;D
-
Congrats man! You're livin' the dream! I will be playing rugby in Alabama this November and will definitely make a stop off for some of your beer. Good luck with everything!
-
Keith, most home brewers could only dream of doing what you are doing. Good Luck.

Yer Darn Right!
You should see about creating a "Touchdooooooooown Titans" (Mike Keith voice) Pale Ale and get the contract to supply LP field with a craft beer! ;)
-
Oh man, congratulations! Hope it goes well.
-
Huge congrats! Yep, livin' the dream. Here's hoping you can keep it going for many years to come.
-
Very cool! Looks like you have some good help there.
Um yea, the artist is the one trowling mud while sitting... ;D
If I eveh get down that way I will be sure to stop in,
and get that beer you owe me. ;)
-
Wow Keith. This is awesome. I have been out of touch with the brewing world lately so I am just now hearing about your brewery. Congrats again man.
-
Congratulations Keith!!!!!
The things I miss when we're gone camping for 10 days................

Good luck Major! My dad lives in Decatur, so I'll have to come by for a "brewery tour" next time I'm visiting. The boys from Olde Towne showed me around their new facilty earlier this summer. I hope to find some of your Kolsch on tap in AL someday. 8)
-
I do want to do a kolsch and we most certainly will - I think it will be a big seller especially considering the climate here. But we are not set up for brewing one yet. Need a few extra bright tanks and a decent RO system. I certainly hope you will stop by when you visit though!
At this point we are in a huge rush trying to get things in order. The ABC has been a PITA and they are not very lenient. But we could have everything in place and be brewing within 2 weeks. Or, it may be 6 weeks. Hard to say at this point.
Here's a peak at our final logo. This one is the plan for the tap handle. At some point we would like to go real wood.

That is very cool!
I like it!
-
That's a VERY classy design! A carved wood handle would be very cool.
-

agreed - that is a helluva design.
-
Glad to see all those years in graphic design were not wasted. Logo looks awesome.
-
Yep. Beautiful and classy.
-
I might stop by just to stare at the tap handle!
-
Very nice Logo.
Good Luck to you.
-
Thats awesome. Hope to one day try the kolsch to see if I did it right.
-
Keith, the medals that they send out for the New England Homebrew Competition are engraved wood. Pretty sure one of the guys in Brew Free or Die (the ORIGINAL CLUB not the micro-brewery founded years later) have a machine that does it.
I'll get a pic posted in the next few days to show you.
They are really nice work and you might want to use something like this for your tap handles, if I talk to the right guy it might come pretty cheap too.
Love that label, not as hard on the eyes as some of the other ones yet its still an attention gettah

FTR the original logos I posted were just brainstorm thumbnails. I was only looking for simple ideas to build into the final design. SOME of those designs I absolutely HATED but other of my group loved - hence the polls. It worked! I got what I wanted. ;)
-
I just got back from vacation this week and I see this. Great News!!! I hope everything works out great for you. Let us all know how it's going and please keep the pics coming. Who knows, this might get some more of us to take the leap.... in about 30 years ;D
