Welcome to the new "Ask the Governing Committee" Section! We're trying to make contacting & getting feedback to the Governing Committee easier. We'd love to hear your thoughts, questions, & comments! If you have something specific to one of the Subcommittees, please post those on the Child Boards for the specific Subcommittee. If you have questions for the AHA members meeting at Homebrew Con in Providence, you can list them here, too!

Can GC meeting minutes be posted here or on the member’s only portion of the website so the membership gets an idea what topics are discussed, decisions made, and planning scheduled by those that have been elected?

Yes, the minutes from out face to face meeting in Providence will be posted. I think you'll find them pretty boring, but they will be posted.

Thank you. I’d actually like to see GC meeting minutes for every meeting posted as they occur.
Characterizing the record of the member’s representatives annual meeting as ‘boring’ is disheartening to me. I’ve been to a bazillion staff meetings and though I would not consider them exciting events, I would hope that they were worth gathering and the exchange of information valuable enough to pass along. Though you may consider them ‘boring’, the meeting minutes may provide some insight for those of us less informed. They may not. Put it in a poll and let the members decide.

As I recall, we discussed posting the minutes of every meeting, but the by laws only call for posting minutes from our yearly meeting. Hopefully someone will let me know if that's correct.

I don’t see that. Maybe I missed it.

From my work in other associations, I would say if AHA states in its bylaws that the Secretary will "take and distribute minutes," then that's what should happen. I also agree that these minutes may be more interesting to the rest of us than GC members may realize.

Any update on when we might expect to see the GC meeting notes?

The notes have been approved for publishing. They're being formatted and will be posted to HomebrewersAssociation.org shortly. We'll follow up here once they are live.

Thx for the update! Cheers!

Thanks! I'm assuming the draft minutes had to be approved at the subsequent meetings (says she who attends far too many meetings).

I assume this ask the governing committee section of the forum was built out to improve exposure and communication between the AHA and members but it is completely unsurprising that this area is empty given the responses here. The bylaws, at least since the most recent amendment in 2013, require the governing committee to publish notes from meetings to the general membership. Not just for significant meetings but for all meetings of the governing committee and the subcommittees. Have these ever been made available to the membership?
It is disheartening once again to see members of the governing committee come on this forum and speak with such dismissiveness about the duties of the governing committee. I cannot remember a time when that has not been the attitude expressed here.
Threads like these really make me wonder why I continue membership in the AHA.

+1. Thank you.
Edit: I’d like to add that as I’ve said, I’ve been to many, many meetings in my day, and therefore read many, many meeting minutes. Most minutes I’ve read can inform a person who did not attend the meeting so they’re up to speed on the proceedings. Sad the AHA would pass up a communication opportunity to highlight the work of the Governing Committee by submitting this document to their membership. It definitely checks the block demanded in the bylaws but it woefully misses the mark to keep membership informed in my opinion. I imagine this is simply an exercise to shut up a vocal member. What a shame.

Thanks for posting these. I see surveys mentioned. I'd be willing to be part of a group that pre-tests surveys in development.

I will mention publishing the minutes from the monthly conference call meetings at our next one in February and will try to get a clarification on this, Brewbama.
